What pound test braid (Powerpro) should I use for throwing poppers, ect?

Uploaded on February 09, 2009

What pound test should i use for all around surf fishing with lures, what are some good CHEAP! lures for general species, and would a 10 foot surf rod be ok for distance casting?

I have used 17/120lb test when using a popper for. When using poppers or topwater baits I prefer a med/heavy action rod in the 9ft to 10ft range. I have had great success and gotten plenty of distance with 8ft rods as well.

You could go with any topwater bait that you have confidence in, a few that I like are pop-r, skitterpops, chug bugs, or the original hula poppers. If you are looking to go low cost look for something along those lines.

Hope this helps a bit.

I just use 20 pound mono for stripers in the surf with a wire leader but i dont know what you are fishing for.

You could go with much heavier pound test line than 17 or 20 if you are going with powerpro. The thing to remember is that the diameter is very small. A 10 foot rod will huck lures.

You'll get better topwater action from your lures with mono. Try some super spooks for great topwater action.
