Fishing

A few buddies and I are heading out for a mid-summer fishing/camping trip to western Pennsylvania for a long weekend in a few weeks. The water levels are always lower and the fish more skittish at this time of year. (As stocked fish I guess they should be since they have survived this long). What are your suggestions for good lures/baits for educated, low-water fish?
Also, is it a waste of time fishing the normal spring-time tributaries or should I move to the main river?
Tributaries are probably the BEST place to be in the midsummer. They will generally be cooler, and you'll probably have better luck. The key is, you need to find water that is under 70 degrees.
As for bait, whole red worms, or half nightcrawlers fished on a size 8 hook will generally do quite well. Keep them along the bottom, but don't pin it to the bottom. A size 0 Mepp's Aglia will also do the trick.
Use flies if you can or a mepps spinner or rooster tail.
the above suggestions for bait are both very good, another key is to see them before they see you. always stay downstream from the trout and stay low to the ground. also they are less aggressive when tepmeratures get high so keep your crawler barely moving along the bottom. where in PA are you headin? i'm from western PA so i might be able to give some good spots.
im from western pa,worms work great but few fishermen forget my favorite bait.in summer when trout surface here and there put on a very small hook and half of a worm and fish for very very small chubs.skin them and use there flashing skin as bait.9 trout , 1 carp , 2 smallmouths, and 1 drum in one day.
Trout slayer and wlaphant444,
We'll fish the Clarion River near Cooks Forest, PA.
i have fished some of those rivers near cooks forest, and we did fairly good on a rebel crawfish also using a stop and go retrieve, good luck!
I don't know if there are brown trout where you are going, but they are most active and least bothered by the warm summer water. Fish topwater or use a small floating minnow plug or worm retrieved slow and jerky near the surface in the late evening and at night. That's when you'll catch the biggest brown of your life.
anything gold is the best suggestion i can give you thats the key to catching trout in my state from ice-off to when
the ice is coming back. my personal favorites are rapalas, jakes, tazmanian devils, or castmasters
Im in north central PA and the Rebel Craw is doing very well. You way also want to try a small Rooster Tail in the bee pattern.
