Trout Fishing

Best trout lure

Uploaded on March 02, 2013

I've found a place not too far from my house that's stocked with trout. I've never fished trout and down own a fly fishing rod. It's a large lake and would like to know the best lure I can use and the ideal places to fish on a lake to catch them. Thanks!

Got to know your individual lake and where to fish, and what to use on that lake. Takes local kknowledge, and where I would start my search.

If it's stocked you can probably use night crawlers or corn and catch them just fine; however, live bait is for wimps. If it was me, I would use an Eppinger Dardevle or Little Cleo spoon, or an in-line spinner. I've also used the small Rapala husky jerk for trout in lakes and did very well.

Wobl-Rite or Phoebe lures work for me.

I have a stocked lake on my installation not 5 minutes from my home. I have been using Berkley power eggs about 6 inches from a 3/4 ounce sinker. The stocked trout can't seem to stay away from them.

And that's the story of stocked fish....easy to catch. I fished a big trout stocked lake, a pay to play lake. The owner had an automatic sprinkler system that fed the trout small dog food pellets. It was flyflishing only, and guys would tie up a dog food pellet fly, and fish on all day long. The owner had to come up with a rule....NO dog food pellet flies! Rainbow trout that reached 10 lbs. on dog food pellets.
