Didn't read the link, BUT!.....look at their eyes. If they are ROUND, they are not poisonous. Only the tiny coral snake that is poisonous has round eyes, and the have the prominant color, rings around the body easy to identify coloration. All the other poisonous snakes have slanted eyes.
And, don't kill the poisonous ones either. Walk away and you and they will be fine. Almost all people who are bit by snakes in the US are trying to kill them or pick them up.
