Camping Gear

Cooking Utensils in a Pinch

Uploaded on June 13, 2009

On a recent Fishing/canoeing trip we realized after setting up camp on an island of the river that we had left the frying pan in the car. With a can a corned beef hash and eggs waiting for us in the morning we were disappointed to say the least. After some resourceful ingenuity I decided to poke a hole in the center of the top of the hash can to relieve any cooking pressures and then just evenly rolled it above the campfire, then I split a beer can lengthwise, forming two little egg boats, each side holding two eggs perfectly. I placed them in my handheld burger cooking grate and cooked them over the fire. The eggs and hash turned out great and if needed they both can be eaten out of the cans.

You can cook bean "in-can" too. Learned it on the stove top but works in the woods too.

Might be ok once in a while-- but most tin cans have a coating
inside them that might release chemicals into the food if it's heated inside the can.Something to consider--might not be good for you in the long run!!
