Always Have a Supply of Block Ice on Hand

Uploaded on July 16, 2009

Block ice will last for several days in your cooler and it is simple to make your own. Save your plastic milk jugs, soda bottles, and any plastic containers that will hold water for freezing. Rinse our your large plastic containers, fill them with water, and place them in the freezer. When you need ice, take a utility or pocket knife and cut the plastic container away from the block of ice. If you prefer crushed ice, take a a hammer and strike the outside of the container before removing the ice. You will always have a ready supply of ice on hand when you are in a hurry.

This is also a good idea in case your electric goes out the more you have the longer your food will keep. It also helps save on your utility bill because you have more frozen stuff in your freezer so it does not have to run as hard or often.
