Deer Hunting
For a quick, economical, and easy to carry set of waders, I use two outdoor/lawn trash bags and two small bungee cords. I open the trash bags and place my feet all the way to the bottom of the bag. Then I wrap the bungee around my leg about knee high and hook it to itself on the other hook. This is not for prolonged use, but for a quick creek crossing or for minimal water exposure. You can double the bags by putting two bags on one leg for added strength and dryness. Avoid stepping directly on rough rocks or sharp points for this will create holes in the bags allowing in water. I used this technique this deer season to cross a creek that was about 1 1/2 ft to 2 ft at it's deepest point that was between me and my deer stand. I harvested my biggest deer to date from that stand this season and had to cross the creek 4 times to retrieve the deer and all my gear. When all was said and done, my boots had minimal water on them and my pants were completely dry. I re-use the same bags to re-cross the creek upon returning from the stand. Just place a smooth rock or stick on top of them upon removal and they will be there when you return. They are also extremely easy to roll up and store in any pocket or pouch and lightweight. This tip helps me year in and year out and I hope you too will benefit from it, good hunting!
