2nd Amendment
Recently, in the aftermath of the Newtown, Conn school shooting, many of us took the time to write our elected legislators, both state and federal in my case to voice our concerns about what the Gov't was "attempting" to do and Obama's attempts to circumvent the 2A.
While taking a pro gun stance, all the officials I contacted are/were of the (R) pursuasion!
How the he## did Barry Sotero get my email address!?
Not only that, I find this reply offensive as hell!
Below, please find the "reply" that I did NOT request nor WANT! Especially from THAT numskull!
------
Dear "FirstBubba":
Thank you for taking the time to write. I have heard from many Americans regarding firearms policy and gun violence in our Nation, and I appreciate your perspective. From Aurora to Newtown to the streets of Chicago, we have seen the devastating effects gun violence has on our American family. I join countless others in grieving for all those whose lives have been taken too soon by gun violence.
Like the majority of Americans, I believe the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms. In this country, we have a strong tradition of gun ownership that has been handed down from generation to generation. Hunting and sport shooting are part of our national heritage. Yet, even as we acknowledge that almost all gun owners in America are responsible, when we look at the devastation caused by gun violence—whether in high-profile tragedies or the daily heartbreak that plagues our cities—we must ask ourselves whether we are doing enough.
While reducing gun violence is a complicated challenge, protecting our children from harm should not be a divisive one. Most gun owners agree that we can respect the Second Amendment while keeping an irresponsible, law-breaking few from inflicting harm on a massive scale. Most also agree that if we took commonsense steps to curtail gun violence, there would be fewer atrocities like the one that occurred in Newtown. We will not be able to stop every violent act, but if there is even one thing we can do to reduce gun violence—if even one life can be saved—then we have an obligation to try.
That is why I asked Vice President Joe Biden to identify concrete steps we can take to keep our children safe, help prevent mass shootings, and reduce the broader epidemic of gun violence in this country. He met with over 200 groups representing a broad cross-section of Americans and heard their best ideas. I have put forward a specific set of proposals based off of his efforts, and in the days ahead, I intend to use whatever weight this office holds to make them a reality.
My plan gives law enforcement, schools, mental health professionals, and the public health community some of the tools they need to help reduce gun violence. These tools include strengthening the background check system, helping schools hire more resource officers and counselors and develop emergency preparedness plans, and ensuring mental health professionals know their options for reporting threats of violence. And I directed the Centers for Disease Control to study the best ways to reduce gun violence—because it is critical that we understand the science behind this public health crisis. From improving mental health services to looking more closely at a culture that too often glorifies violence, we must leave no stone unturned when working to keep Americans safe.
As important as these steps are, they are not a substitute for action from Congress. To make a real and lasting difference, members of Congress must also act. As part of my comprehensive plan, I have called on them to pass some specific proposals right away. First, it is time to require a universal background check for anyone trying to buy a gun. Second, Congress should renew the 10-round limit on magazines and reinstate and strengthen the assault weapons ban. We should get tougher on those who buy guns with the purpose of selling them to criminals, and we should impose serious punishments on anyone who helps them do this.
These are reasonable, commonsense measures that have the support of the majority of the American people. But change will not come unless the American people demand it from their lawmakers. Now is the time to do the right thing for our children, our communities, and the country we love. We owe the victims of heartbreaking national tragedies and the countless unheralded tragedies each year nothing less than our best effort—to seek consensus in order to save lives and ensure a brighter future for our children.
Thank you, again, for writing. I encourage you to visit www.WhiteHouse.gov/NowIsTheTime to learn more about my Administration’s approach.
Sincerely,
Barack Obama
Please tell me I'm not the ONLY one who got one of these repulsive replys!
It seems like the TEA Party and Conservative groups weren't the only ones that were being spied upon. What a bunch of crooks.
I replied to the e-mail with the following:
President Obama
Thank you for your unsolicited reply, but since I didn't contact YOU, I feel the following honest reply is in order.
With your past history of voting in favor of all gun control measures prior to your presidency, I find any of your intentions towards the Second Amendment to be suspect.
Thank you
"FirstBubba"
Well the first three paragraphs were sensible and true, but he lost me when he mentioned Biden. Anything that boob has anything to do with is not sensible.
In Shakespeare's play "Macbeth" Banquo says something that is applicable here---"But 'tis strange: And oftentimes, to win us to our harm, the instruments of darkness tell us truths, win us with honest trifles, to betray's in deepest consequences".
I received the same E-mail this afternoon. I must be on their watch list too.
I E-mailed the President back and asked how he obtained my E-mail and advised him with past record on voting for gun control I didn't think that he would vote any different in the future. I told him with the illegal activities of his administration the last several months I would appreciate it if they would not E-mail me again.
FirstBubba,
The first Legislators you contacted may be interested to hear your e-mail to them was re-directed and resulted in the unsolicited reply. Just saying.
I wrote my Senators and Representative here in PA. I didn't get this email. (Yet). My guess is that someone you wrote forwarded your email to someone else (maybe Obama, maybe someone who then forwarded it to Obama). It was probably done innocently enough to show that you and thousands of other Americans took the time to speak out against gun control. But once you wrote the email, you had no control over what people did with your email address or who they sent it to. Now you have no control over what email is sent to you. You'll be getting a lot of love mail from the President I'm guessing. He's got your addy now. Ain't technology great.
Make no mistake jimbo, three of them have been notified plus a note to the NRA!
Make no mistake about it..Obama, and the left want your home address as well if you have a firearm.
I got that Barry e-mail too, I have had this happen before, if you stand up YOU WILL be counted!and recorded, and listed!
Obama has not governed for a day since he has been elected, and now re-elected. It is all about raising money, campaigning, and increasing socialist voters/supporters. They are long range power thinking. e-mail addresses, home addresses will all fit into the bigger picture. Gun control, one payer healthcare, news suppression, who to tax heavily, and who to provide exemptions is all down the road, and ongoing. Every scandal that has come up Obama has not been involved because he hasn't governed over any of those agencies involved. He comes in, and passes as "one of you" and is as upset as you are, and will do all he can to see that it never happens again.
I think you have it right on Dangle, if was not for using social media to garner votes during the election he would probably want to shut down the internet and Fox news - both a thorn in his side.
Question is, what are the Conservatives, Independents, Religious Groups and Libertarians doing to counter his agenda ?
Religious groups jhjimbo? What do you think the Muslim brotherhood is? They certainly aren't going to stop him, he's their biggest, most powerful friend.
Problem I see jhjimbo, is there IS no "counter'"!
I'll pist this again:
"...a dangerous ambition more often lurks behind the specious mask of zeal of the rights of the people, than under the "forbidding appearance"(my emphasis!) of zeal for the firmness and efficiency of government."
To actually "SAVE" our government, the VERY first thing that MUST happen is to curtail "entitlements"!
That is currently about 75%/80% of Gov't expense.
The so-called "low info" voter isn't that poorly informed, they just know what side their bread is buttered on. Pure and simple. They KNOW as long as the Obama admin is in power, the "entitlements" will continue to flow.
The GOP publicly (and rightly so!) stands for and talks about "entitlement reform"!
ergo: the "forbidding appearance" of firmness and efficiency of Gov't.
Would you vote "for" a POTUS that's going to lower your income? (note: I DID NOT say "wage!)
No?
I wouldn't either!
BUT! I'm intelligent enough to know not to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.
Entitlements, welfare, unemployment etc., etc. (and now the ACA!) are squeezing the very life out of America as surely as an anaconda kills it's prey.
As long as "entitlee's" hold the majority, you can just about bet there will be another Lib (Clinton? Kerry? S. Rice?, Doomberg? God forbid, Rahm Emmanuel?)
mspl,
Islam to me is not a religion - it is more a way of life that has violent and suppressive overtones. The brotherhood is just a band of thugs.
FirstBubba,
What I was hinting at in the above post is that the groups I mentioned need to find some common thread that they can unite around to defeat the 47% If they do not unite and lose future elections their very individual existence will be threatened - 'united we stand, divided we fall'. Coalitions for this single purpose must be formed - now.
I understand completely jimbo.
But understand, openness and honesty (the GOP) is being countered by subterfuge and lies (the Left)!
Ever hear of Richard Mason? He brought a Zulu uprising in Africa to a screeching halt by using their own tactics against them! Almost single-handedly!
BUT, once the uprising wad squashed, the local Gov't ran him out of Africa because THEY feared him too!
To beat the Democrats, the GOP must resort to the same tactics! Lies and subterfuge! The Left no longer fears either truth OR the media.
Without FOX, there is no Conservative media. Since they are the ONLY ones crying "WOLF!", they are viewed with skepticism!
In this case, instead of the squeaky wheel getting the "grease",it's gets the "axe"! (figuratively speaking, of course!)
Yes! You are completely correct!
Axelrod was a genius at how he guided OB to lie and deceive the voters all the way to the WH. OB had something for all of us, he sure did, and now all of us are not so sure we like what he has. I agree with what Dallas was saying on another thread, wait till the not so Affordable Health Care Act kicks in. Maybe that is what the 1.2 billion hollow points are for - to convince everyone how great their new health care is, as they have a .40s&w pointed at their head as they sign on the dotted line???
Blubber the way you got on the email list was when you joined Gun Grabbers R US. I know that deep down you're actually a control freak, salivating over other peoples conceal carries. Oh, and thanks for signing Sarge up, now you are both on Emily's List.
What the heck happened to Hoski? He hasn't posted anything in a while and i'm started to worry about him, I hope something bad hasn't happened.
jhjimbo...The untold story of why BO won is due in large part to Republican voters, many of whom did not show up at the polls! The feeling was from all those concerned that there were plenty of voters out there to throw out Obama, and Romney win the election, BUT the GOP voters did not show up in huge numbers as predicted by the polsters that got it wrong. And; it is due to the devision in the party. The Tea Party folks that are on the right track to recover the country are not welcomed by a lot of the power brokers in the party...the Washington folks, the RHINOs Many of those that would have voted to throw out Obama didn't show at the polls because they felt Romney was a WA. insider, and would have supported big govt policy, and rejected their limited govt appraoch....and I can't blame them if that would have been the case. McCain was a big govt WA Republican, and many of his powerful friends were Democrats.
Dangle,
I see the same scenario shaping up for 2016. The liberals will have a 'promise them everything' Candidate. The other bifurcated groups will be tripping over each other to push their specific single issues. Women's issues, Religious issues, Union issues, etc. Groups that live and die on a single issue will single handed throw more votes to the Liberals - but they stood for their principles. Great, they will be principled losers. If they don't take a deep breath and hold their nose and unite for one more vote, the fate of the Country will be sealed for as far as anyone can see - socialistic/communistic European model destined for failure.
I wish it were not so, but that is what I see shaping up for 2016. The 47% are already united by the Almighty Dollar and the 53% are going in every which way but united. Maybe the 2014 election will show something different, we will have to wait and see.
Gentleman
Just how many conservatives did you hear say, "I don't like the GOP candidate, so I'm going to vote Independent."
I've explained a jillion times; "If you vote Independent, you're actually electing Obama. ".
I've seen Libs on HERE whine about some of Obama's BS! Do you think THEY voted Ind?
Nope! They voted their "party".
I voted McCain.
I voted Romney.
I'd vote Palin or Bachman either one. Heck! I'd even vote Nixon if he was still around.
In my opinion, you've got to vote "party", not "person".
I don't know if Romney would have beat Obama if he'd gotten all those Ind votes or not, but it sure would have helped.
I guess since I have Verizon they are looking at my phone records now too.
Firstbubba,
Until the GOP selects a true conservitive, and not a big govt supporting RHINO then conservatives are not going to get behind a candidate like McCain. Get the big govt supporters in the GOP to back a conservative. They've seen socialism spread over the decades because GOP folks like John McCAin supported liberals in congress. This crap about "can't we all just get along?"....and we need bipartisanship, and every bill needs something in it, a compromise, that provides something for the socialists is BS.
Dangle "true conservatives" are what us Dems hope and pray for, heck we even donate money if they are really wacky enough. A dead fish can win an election against a "true conservative".
I loved the Republican primaries last time, laugh a minute. NINE NINE NINE!! ha ha ha, which one was it that wanted to bet $10,000, good way to relate to regular folks, hair piece Trump? Fired. he he he Who I really want to see is Sarah Palin but I fear she's a little long in the tooth, menopause ya know. That fat guy from Jersey is pretty funny, except he be smoochin Obama too much. I just dont' know who. I don't have a feel for Rubio yet.
BS You lowlife libs crossed over to vote for John McCain in the primaries because he was a liberal. Guys like you who see conservatives as extremists who want nothing more than limited govt. less tax burden on working Americans, and businesses that have to compete against foreign competition besides others at home are as slimy, and selfish as a human can possibly get.
Dangle
Everybody keeps looking for the problems within the GOP.
That's NOT the problem. The "problem" is a "shuck & jive" Chicago lawyer that has bought his way into the presidency with lies and rhetoric, free cell phones, 99 weeks of unemployment, billions in American taxpayer funds chasing "Green Energy", free (?) health care etc, etc, etc......
Romney was straight up.
McCain maybe not so much, but he or Romney either one would be better than what's going on now
Were there better GOP candidates?
I think so. But guess what?
They weren't on the ballot. McCain was. Romney was.
Quit looking for "Silver Bullets", Kimosabe!
Get back to basics.
BO is so scared of mistakes he can't even speak without a teleprompter!
But rat and Homaski love him and his anti 2A, "outdated document" mindset.
We haven't from Homaski in quite a while, i'm starting to think he might be dead:-(
I agree all the way with how bad the democrat party is with BO at the helm, BUT...the GOP has plenty of problems within the party. You should have listened to big govt old Bob Dole recently in an interview blame the GOP for being to extreme, and not compromising with the liberals in power. Those folks in the party that I identified need to get exposed, and get behind the solution to our problems, and it doesn't mean compromising with liberals! And again, what was very evident in the election that wasn't discussed much is what a poor turnout by Republicans to throw out Obama.
I'm at a loss when the American people stand by and let Obummer put a proven liar in as National Security Advisor. It seems like the American people have turned a blind eye and let this administration do anything they want to. Like, cheat, lie and then send someone out in a briefing to substanciate the lie with more lies, perform illegal acts, spy on law abiding people, hack our telephone records, appoint unqualified people to posts, let departments squander millions of our dollars and do nothing about it, and then act arrogant as he## when questioned about it, etc. It is like the American people are hypnotized by the charmer we have in the White House.
It is the fact that there are more uninformed than informed. It is the fact that most just write it off to paritsan politics like every illegal act BO is involved in, and, or supports is just a baseless attack on the President. And many think it is based on racism. Everytime I watch an interview taken on the streets of a big city, I shake my head in disbelief at the ignorance walking around out there. The other fact is what Romney said...we now have a near 50% of the public dependent upon big govt for a check.
Let's look at it this way, Dangle.
If only 35% voted simply to maintain their Gov't income (and many do)
,then you only need a 16% following to "win" an election!
Elections are no longer about governing, but mob-rule entitlements.
It's the lynch mob against the sheriff and his two deputies.
Yep, you got it. Socialism has creeped in over the decades, and it is going to be darn hard to get rid of it.
Don't remember the guys name, but he ran for POTUS as "the "Socialist" Party candidate. He finally quit running because, "...the American voter won't elect a Socialist, but the Democrats promote socialist ideas....."
If you think OB is inept and can not improve the Country and it's problems right now, you are wrong. Things are going exactly as he
would plan. Get God out of the Country and the Military. Demoralize the military, he did that by firing 4 Generals and the Admiral. Push Gays, same sex marriage, indoctrinate children in the schools, open the borders, in general demolish anything related to GOD, the family, health care, anything capitalistic or anything status quo. None of those are compatible with the European, Big Government model he is directing the Country toward. The model that is proven not to work.
I'm afraid, jhjimbo, you're about as right as you can get.
What scares me more than anything is that so many people are aware, and accept it!
I don't know Dallas. I don't know how to try to get in touch with him. Didn't 007 go fishing with him? Maybe it was someone else. Big guy, past retirement, things happen, hope he just got fed up or been fishing lots.

,then you only need a 16% following to "win" an election!
Blubber the way you got on the email list was when you joined Gun Grabbers R US. I know that deep down you're actually a control freak, salivating over other peoples conceal carries. Oh, and thanks for signing Sarge up, now you are both on Emily's List.
