Shotguns
I think I might break down and get a dedicated turkey gun rather than using one of my other shotguns. I am going to look at the Remington 870 turkey and the Mossberg 835 camo turkey. This gun would only be used for turkey and fired <10 times a year. Any thoughts? +or- Thanks.

I don't own either one of those guns. However, I have heard a countless amount of positive feedback about the Remington 870. Reliable, 'average-joe' price, easy maintence, oh and reliable. My vote on any pump action shotgun goes to the 870.
I would vote for the Remington 870. Some of my friends have had some problems with the Mossberg 835's.
Thanks, I'm going to look at them in a week or so, again, thank you for your input.
Last turkey I shot was with my Daisy Red Rider at 10 paces. Broke a twig, and when he turned to look, I got him in the right eye.
I had an older 835 and couldnt get the gun to pattern worth a crap with many different brands of shells and chokes. I now am shooting a remington 870 which i would pick over the mossberg any day.
buy the remington over the mossberg
benelli SBEII is a monster turkey gun if you have the 1500+bucks to shell out for it
I have a Mossberg 835 turkey gun that has served me very well. No lost birds with it in the seven years I've been using it.
I currently own a Mossberg 535 and have shot both the 535 and the 870 Remington. I prefer the Mossberg because it feels like more of a dedicated turkey gun then the Remington. Shorter, lighter, pre-tapped for any kind of optics you want to put on it. The Remington is defintely a workhorse but as far as a dedicated turkey gun I would choose the Mossberg.
I have shot both of the guns in question. I would have to say the Mossberg has had problems in the past. Somtimes the shell sticks in the chamber. Its seems if you get even a small amount of dust in the gun you will tend to have problems. I have had no problems at all with the Remington. How ever I two years ago I purchased a Charles Daly Maxi Mag. I would have to say this gun is my favorite when it comes to reaching out and touching those Toms. You get alot of gun for the low price you pay.
The 870 was the first shotgun I used to kill my first tom, and actually I got my first hen with it as well. It was my dad's 870 Magnum and I loved it. Once I hit 18, I bought my own shotgun and I went with the 835 Ultimag. Still have it to this day, and not one issue with the boomstick. I have added a new stock and barrel, and it is now my designated home defense shotgun.
You should also think about a single shot shotgun for a designated turkey gun. I have a NEF/H&R Single Shot Turkey, and I am very impressed with it.
I have a 535 and love it. 870 is also good, my Dad has had one for decades. I know a 535 isn't quite the same as an 835 but they're both Mossbergs.
My dad has an 870 that has been sending critters to the great beyond for 30 years and I just got a new 870 this time last year and have already killed a turkey, 100+ doves, 47 ducks, and 7 geese. I can't even tell you how many rounds I've ran through it shooting clay pigeons. I abused my 870 pretty hard and and it still functions flawlessly. Basically I'm saying you can treat this gun like crap and it's still gonna shoot.
Benelli nova awesome gun for the money better than mossberg by far and i think its more gun for your money than an 870
