What I like about the State of the Union Speeches

Uploaded on January 24, 2012

Is when Obama walk through those doors and everyone stands up. Then he shmoozes down the aisle back slaping and what not with all those Republican senators and congressmen. Even better is when he leaves and they all try to get his autograph. I love seeing Republicans treating Obama like a rock star.

I like when the President comes out and tells what he was going to do and what great shape the union is in and we know better and then what he is going to do and you know he isn't going to get it done. It is more like a fairy tale.

I know it's difficult when the facts and figures don't fit the agenda...but outright manufacture of "what he really means" is pathetic.

It was a great address. He is a good speaker, but his jokes fell flat. He should have cut it at about 50 minutes, got boring. Too bad it was just politics as usual without substance.

In my state Greenburg and associates hooked up a mostly republican group (44% repub/33% Dem/others independent) to those dial things where they can twist the knobs good or bad depending on how they are thinking.

Watch what happens when Obama introduces the concept of the Buffet Rule (every million dollar income must pay 30% minimum) I don't mean watch the Dems, watch the Republicans.

http://youtu.be/YbT27tK1GYI

Most Republicans have a basic sense of right and wrong, what's fair and what isn't, the same as any other moral thinking person. What needs to be overcome is the amazing amount of propaganda they get from that TV station they watch.

I liked watching Boehner look like he was choking down a canary, Biden struggling to stay awake, and Cantor looking as grim and sour as a water starved lemon tree. But, what I really like was Rep. Giffords' cheerful countenance, and Pres. Obama's truthfulness, especially concerning U.S. manufacturing and jobs.

The ratings for the State of the Union address were down 12%. Dosen't surprise me. Also in my daily paper this morning we are going to cut 80,000 troops from our combat batallions. That always seemed liked a good imvestment in employment along with a strong national security. That is one thing I don't mind paying taxes for is a strong military.

The president was making a point about how Warren Buffet should pay his fair share just like his low paid secretary. This morning it came to light, his secretary makes over $200,000.00 a year. Hardly a small salary.

Obama didn't do so well with his 2011 SOTU promises. Not much is going to come of this 2012 one. The American voter knows this and thus the low interest in what he had to say. It was just more of the same empty words he's so good at spouting...

Not sure that I'd call 43 million people low interest, much much higher than the last president of the other party.

Sarge I don't remember hearing anyone say Buffett's secretary was low paid, do you? None the less should someone making 200K pay more taxes than a billionaire?

I think "defense" is a waste of money. Mostly it goes to expensive weapons systems in inportant congressional districts anyway. Remember star wars? then some guys with box cutters hi jacked some air craft. Killing people is a bad business. So far we've racked up a hundred thousand so Bush could get re elected, might be better to make wind mills or something.

Sarge, as you are well aware of, it's not what Buffet's Secretary makes as a salary, it's the percentage difference paid in taxes.

As for our military, as you know we no longer need to be on a WWII footing, that is, lots and lots of numbers. Global conflicts in the 21st century are smaller and more localized.
There is much to be said for the capabilities of smaller, better trained and equipped forces being able to move quickly and effectively to hotspots.
In simpler terms, we no longer need lots of rifle carriers to stop the Red aggression. We no longer need 900 bases and their expense.

rock rat IMO the reason you have all those wonderful guns you own is because we have a strong military. Let's protect America from all enemies home and abroad. Let's quit this lavish spending on bailing out banks, underwriting 47% of the people that don't pay taxes at all.

Rick, You're right of course. As I recall it was Bush who bailed out the banks...twice.
Would it interest you to know that as a total, we spend more than the next top 20 industrialized countries on our military?
That our Air Force and Naval aviators comprise the top 2 largest air forces in the world?

And you're right about those 47% of our population being too poor as to pay taxes...should probably turn them into street beggars sifting through dumpsters...silly people, how dare they become underpaid.

Hoski, I'll remind you just like I did Rock Rat. It's Obama and not Bush who's asking for reelection. I see it's hard for you to defend Obama's record.

Rock Rat, it is offensive to me that you mention the murders of 9/11 implying that it was a result of failure on the part of our military forces. You know full well that it was instead a failure on the part of our intelligence network. You are disgusting.

I believe we need to have an overwhelming military superiority in order to protect our interests and freedoms. Leaders and planners always make the mistake of fighting the last war. History shows that future conflicts are unpredictable in the methods used to wage war. It would be vastly better to be over prepared than under.

If I understand 'the Right' correctly (boy, there's an oxymoron),the government cannot create jobs, thus GOP bean counters will observe no change in the unemployment rate. A person cannot be unemployed from a job that really does not exist.

Obama is still campaigning against Bush? Bush hasn't been in an election in 7 years. Congress, not Bush, bailed out the banks and the others. You folks seem to overlook that Congress, not the Executive branch, holds the purse strings when trillions of dollars are spent. Go down the list and see who voted for what, then point your bony fingers at the responsible ones! Get over it!

Actually I do notice WAM, trouble is Defense spending is always tied to other must pass legislation or funding the govt for another month. Getting ready to toss the congress though. Worst congress on record. With TARP Bush suggested it and all congress did was approve.

Damn, Hoski! You hit it right on the head!

This crap hole we are mired in is not Bush's fault anymore than Obama is going to fix it(or the next Teleprompter). Irresponsible fiscal policy enacted by the Congress and Federal Reserve have put the economy where it is. If you need trillions to finance a war, then raise taxes to pay for it, not borrow against your grandchildren. If a factory worker making $15 an hour needed a $350,000 home, it certainly wasn't the government's place to back a loan that he could never pay for. Where is the logic behind this fiscal madness? Since when does any president pass a budget and levy taxes? Never! Maybe some on here need Political Science 101 (sorry, Snafu). Czars indeed. The Russians were smart enough to get rid of theirs...
