Does anybody remember the .44 Auto Mag ? (made by Auto-Mat, if I remember right.)
Any idea how many were made?

Yea, I remeber them. I don't believe too many were made, however; somewhat costly to make with intricate parts if I recall?
Buddys dad had one that was in a "presentaion" case that was autographed by "Clint Eastwood". I don't think it was one "in the movies" just made by the same guy.
Never got to see the "guts" on it though.
I don't think too many were made. I do know that they were not chambered in 44 magnum though . It was a sepereate cartridge called 44 Auto-Mag.
To hjohn429: Your right. They used a .308 cut it down to size and loaded .44 rounds.
it was around 5000 for both the 357. and the 44. combined . the barrels were interchangable on the frames . and the 357. was just a necked down version of the 44. that like stated above was a cut down necked down 308. winchester. both calibers, beat the standard 357. and 44.mag in velocity . there was a 50.cal prototype as well but i dont think it ever hit the market ,i will have to do some checking on that to be positive .if you can find one for sale expect to pay handsomely for it .
sorry i gave you some miss information its was a 300.amp not a 50. cal amp. that never made it out to market
Expect to pay about $1200
