I haven't bought a new gun in a long time but I am considering the Marlin X7 in 270??. The old 300 mag shoots ok but not as well as I have heard the newer rifles do with less kick. Does anyone have any input?
Both caliber's and have been around for a long time. I own a .270 Remington and think very highly of it. It's been a highly effective elk rifle for me. Not knowing your hunting objectives I'll take a guess that bear is on your bucket list. Most noteably Kodiak or Brown bear. If in fact that's the case, I believe I would opt for the .300 mag. Little bit more power to it's punch. Good rifle's though, both of them. Good luck to you!
i go with the older 300 mag. not just because its powerful, but i bet their are memories and plenty animal taken down by it. stick with. if you so desire to get a newer gun, then yeah go ahead with the 270. but i would keep the 300 mag and pass it down. good luck to you though.
