The Tip Board
Have you ever needed a signalling whistle, but just so happened to leave yours at home? All you need is a spent big-game-sized cartridge and a lung or two full of air to make a loud whistling sound that can be heard for hunrdeds of yards. Simply blow over the opening, and with the right amount of air, angle, and practice, you should be able to make a high pitched signalling whistle for the next time you need to communicate with your buddies!
Don't get me wrong, our Search and Rescue Teams are great, but vast hardly begins to describe our backcountry. The last guy walked out on his own. The guy before him they found the following spring, or at least his DNA in a bone fragment. In my neck of the woods we need to be prepared to survive on our own rather than calling for help from others, The old self-reliant pioneer spirit is still alive and well out here in the wild west. Great tip for your neck of the woods though.
