Just returned from elk hunting in Nevada and Arizona. Back to back hunts I was lucky to draw. Killed a nice 350 plus bull in Nevada, so held out for a bigger one in Arizona, but ran out of time. What made the Nevada hunt special was my son and grandson went with me. We spotted the bull at great distance in tough terrain just as it became daylight My son stayed behind the spotting scope and witnessed the whole adventure of my grandson and I completing a two and one half hour stalk up steep mountain side covered with thick trees. Finally spotted the bull across a canyon , my shot was just over 300 yards into a sun glaring into my scope and then into shade striking him through both shoulders. He dropped instantly. It was my grandson's first hunting and camping trip.

Grandson just turned eleven, to say he was excited is an understatement.

My grandson carried his own daypack in which he carried bits of survival gear to gain hunting experience and in which he stuffed extra clothes as he became too warm hiking or to extract when too chilly sitting and glassing. Yes, he had his own binoculars to help my old eyes, and he put out a helping hand when grandpa needed it over logs and rocks. It could not have been better. The clean quick kill at the end was the icing on the cake.
Used my old 300 Win Mag using Barnes TSX 180's. The temperature was nippy,
12 above at dawn and low 30's when I made my shot.
Kindest to all
