Crow Hunting

Uploaded on December 13, 2011

I was considering try out crow hunting. I have an uncle who does it and he loves it. Tell me, is it wrong to want to shoot crows when they have no value? It hear that they are pests and damage crops but is it bad to do it for fun? If I would shoot one, what would I do with it if I don't have a purpose for it? Mount it maybe? Also, what type of setups, guns, and decoys do you use?

Jews luv crows I do believe. What's the season on crows? In the past there was an agreement between Mexico, and the USA to not shoot crows here in the USA...forgot why, and what the details of that agreement, but it has been a few years since that law was made.

We hunt them ocassionally when they are around our farm. I use an electronic caller (fox pro) with cow calls and have a couple crow decoys and an owl decoy. Its fun but I have not done it in a couple years.

They do a lot of harm to their surroundings, damaging crops, robbing nests, etc, thinning the flock a bit is sound management. I used to do a lot of it but drifted away for some reason. I plan to fix that soon.

I quit too soon here. I usually use a Mossburg pump 12 stoked with handloaded 1 1/4 oz. 5's or 6's around 1200 fps., an older Johnny Stewart cassette caller, a handful of crow decoys, and an owl decoy. You need to camo up and hide well, they can almost read your mind.

007 cant say it any better than that. if you dont hide very good you wont get many birds. unless they are used to people. i was at a place last week that we called the right into a guys back yard they kept coming back no matter what

Years back now, the CROW was protected by Natioinal Law in an agreement with the Mexican Govt I do believe. Anyone know the background on that, and if that has changed any? I never did get the gist of that one, just knew you couldn't hunt them, and speculation as to why.

I make them into dog treats. I use decoys i made from plywood cut into shapes of crows and painted black. I use a crow locator call. (the kind used for turkey hunting). I use # 6. They are a great bird to hunt for fun. Great practice too.
