Deer Hunting

Bow hunting with Camo??

Uploaded on September 26, 2011

This will be my first year bow hunting whitetails, actually hunting period and i was wandering if camo is really necessary. I've heard from some that it is not needed, (seeing as how during gun season your in mostly blaze orange) just as long as your "sent free" and I've also heard from others that they wouldn't be caught dead in the woods without it so maybe yall can shed some light on this topic for me. Thanks

Not sure if it's needed but it doesn't hurt your chances any.

Why not? Its the hunter's trademark pretty much. I'm really not sure if it helps but i've never spooked a deer while wearing it.

I'd say that it really depends on how you plan on hunting, in a tree blind, pop up blind, on the ground, etc... It's not as important what you wear, just remember to be quiet and stay downwind.

Remember the old buckskin jacket and pants with the fringe. That was the first camo. The most important thing to remember in choosing camo is that it breaks up your outline like the fringe and is made of a natural material or a synthetic that imitiates natural materials. The reason buckskin or other natural materials are better than synthetics is that synthetics can reflect light unnatually. Is camo necessary? I don't know, but hunters have been using it in one form or another since time immemorable. And like a wise man* once said " it doesn't hurt your chances any".

Sent, stealth, and then camouflage is the order of importance if bow hunting. Deer are color blind. They can hear very very well. To get them close you will have to down wind or completely covered up and sent free.

I always use camo, but i hunt from brush blinds, i track, still hunt, stuff like that. Wile deer are coler blind, they can see ultraviolet light, and most sent free detergents kill those brightners, the best is dead down wind. (there is no such thing as sent free but fresh earth sent-a-way spray with deer pee on your boots does confues them) Also, washing yor orange clothing in that detergent, will make it duller to deer, but brighter (only slightly) to humans. I also take these measures when hunting preadators. Even using deer pee. Also, ALWAYS stay downwind.

I think the biggest thing is useing the wind and making sure you use a fabric that is soft so it makes less noise. But, i love going into the mountains in uniform wheather its needed or not!
