Deer with an ear tag

Hi all. I recently saw a road killed deer with an ear tag, much like commonly seen on livestock, that read 06-10-08. Road kills are nothing new but this one caught my eye so I passed the information along to the local conservation officer. Speculation of course as to whether somebody raised it from a fawn and turned it out, was it from a deer farm, or did somebody get a silly spell and catch a fawn, ear tag it, and release it?
