Deer Hunting

I have too many guns and I want to thin out the herd.

Uploaded on December 31, 2011

Hello, I have the following: savage 110 classic 30-06, custom M4 AR, browning BPS 12 ga., two ithacas, one mossberg 500 20ga., (2) 10/22's, (2) 336 30/30's, .243 sako, SR9c, sig mosquito, mossberg JIC. Oh and an 870 turkey, and a 39A.

Thinking I want to get a scout rifle, keep one 10/22, the 39A, and keep my 500, and a BPS 12. then get a .44 super blackhawk and be done!

I dont know that I really need an AR? If s$#t hits the fan I will be fine as will my wife and child. Give me some opinions guys. Also I hunt, deer, turkey, quail, coyotes, antelope.

Thanks!!!

I've heard of this before but have never seen it in person. Too many guns??? Thin the herd??? If you seek help now, before this gets out of hand, you might get thru it. I suggest you try to get an appointment soonest with Dr. Petzel. Don't put it off!

Too much guns, whats that mean? It's like too much money, there's no such thing. It's like a girl too pretty with too much class. being too lucky, a car too fast. No matter what you think ol son, you can't never have too much guns!

I seem to have a similar affliction. Can't decide which one to get rid of, so I'll keep them all. One followed me home the other week after I proclaimed that I did not need another rifle. The diagnosis is terminal I think.

Damo450,
I understand what you mean. Alot of years ago I ridded myself of ones that were just taking up space and filled the spaces with meaningful guns. Now I don't get a new one unless I unload one ( give to son or grandson etc.). Yes I understand your problem. Several times I have replaced 2 $300.00 guns with 1 $800.00 gun. My wife says my math isn't too good.

Boy you guys are really a lot of help! Ha! I just put a list together of the ones I want to get rid of, not all the ones I will keep. Sarge01 you and I have about the same practices evidently, and my math is just as sharp! I would just like to get to the bare essentials and keep it that way. Trying to slim down everything in life and make things simpler. I still cant figure out why I need that damn AR?

How about just selling/trading enough of the least desirable to finance the new toy? The AR and other firearms could be invaluable to your grandchildren. One day they could have them free of a Federal paperwork trail...

I have been trying to give the Sons and Grandsons some firearms now so they can enjoy them. I have plenty and I am getting old enough to start thinking about where my guns will be going. I have come to the conclusion , why wait, give them to them now so they can enjoy them now. I still have plenty to hunt with and then some. Also I still find one that catches my eye from time to time and they usually follow me home sooner or later. It gives me alot of pleasure to see them enjoy the firearms now.

I believe I may put this one to rest. I cant do it, its impossible. I find a reason to keep every single one. And I just bought a savage 99 two days ago. And a savage 19 NRA this morning. Smokin deals. It's a sickness!

The only time I ever sold one of my guns -- which I didn't really like, which didn't suit me well, which was chambered for a rather anemic cartridge, etc. -- I immediately regretted it and to this day, I look through the gun auctions thinking, "I used to have one of those...".

Just in case you are still trying to decide whether to give some guns up let me point a few things out. Guns are getting scarce so they are a good investment. I got my first gun about 60 years ago and it should be at full value any day now. If anyone should be so insensitive as to ask why you just bought a gun - pause about half a minute like you were trying to get your head around the meaning of this, and then say "To shoot, what did you think?"

I do not collect firearms, but I seem to accumulate them, and I recognize that I have more than I desperately "need", but whenever I consider which one to sell or trade it's as difficult as choosing which kidney is superfluous - after all, I've got two of them - and it's a painful decision. I hope you sleep on it, deliberate carefully, and come to a good decision. Whatever one you dispose of, you'll wish you hadn't after you relinquish it.
