Plenty of BLM and STL property around Check out CDOW's website for the success and big game statistics so you can decide if it is to pressured or what season will have better odds. I frequent the area alot and I would hunt the area and might due to the fact that a large magazine just posted an article on the area I hunt.

I saw my first mule deer at Canon City. We were on our way to Westcliffe to mule deer hunt and there at Royal Gorge Nat. park a mule deer buck stuck his head in the door of the pickup looking for a handout. I don't remember how far it is from Canon City to Westcliffe , but I don't think it is too far, FETTY can tell us if he lives there. I hunted on the San Isabella National Forest without a guide and killed a 3 point 30 inch muledeer that missed Boone and Crockett by 12 points.
That was in 1987 but I still have friends here in WV that still go out there to hunt. I was hunting in a canyon called Comanche Lake.

I got out of the army in 96, but i was stationed at Ft. Carson. If you go south on 115 from Gate 1 you will come to a Rodio arena on the east side of the road. Across the road from that if my memory is worth a crap, is a dirt road that takes you into a bunch of public land. I used to go there to shoot, but there was alot of sign there. I never seen anyone else there but I never hunted it.
