Deer Hunting
I need help choosing a muzzeloader to purchase. I'm a female who's been hunting for 15+ yrs. and want to closet my shotgun for a muzzeloader. I've been looking into TC's but also the CVA Accura V2. I would appreciate any advice, thank you.

T/C encores are nice, They make ones that are only a muzzleloader, and ones that you could get rifle calibers in as well, if you ever went hunting in a rifle area, or for something like coyotes, I love my encore, and me and my Dad have 4 T/C's with out a complaint to be held.
I have had both and the CVA will outshoot the T/C any day. Right now the CVA Accura V2 is the best on the market. I have a CVA Optima that replaced a T/C Encore and it shoots great and is somewhat less expensive than the Accura V2. I haven't been able to justify the extra money to trade my CVA Optima for the CVA Accura V2.
I have three Optimas and would recommend CVA based on their performance. Beekeeper has an Accura and posted a while ago that the triggers were really good. That has been my only complaint about the Optimas.
Thank you so much for your input. I read something about the CVA's having issues blowing up??? Is that correct? It must have been a very long time ago. Because I'm only hearing good things about them now.
I never heard of a CVA blowing up. That is a new one on me, and I have been around a long time dealing with hunters.
Very good to know... I'm curious now, where I read that. I'm going to try to look for that again.
They did have a problem and the ones that were bad are still under recall. I can't remember the model name but it is not one of the current crop. I have a lot of CVA's in both centerfire and BP configurations from .223 thru 45/70 &.50cal BP. They have all worked flawlessly and for the most part are very accurate when you find a load they like.
cpier310, since this was a safety issue I went back to the source I mentioned (chuckhawks.com) and there are articles about problems more recent than my memory indicated.
There is also apparently a website cvaguncases.com which is supposedly run by a firm related to the lawyers for the injured parties. I went there years ago when I first heard about problems with CVA firearms. There were definitely some people hurt. How and why is of course the subject of legal proceedings.
I still bought CVA's and have not had any problems. Like with all information on the internet you should be careful and verify for yourself.
Good luck with the new muzzleloader!
The CVA blowing up issue i believe was in the 1990's. I did read about it a bit. The products were recalled, and todays CVA's are said to be top notch.
Sarge and Chuckles, I'm shocked that neither of you recommended a flintlock, you knew I'd catch this, right? Best.............
007 I just figured we could get away with it cause you were busy chasing wabbits. :)
Ever since you talked about your Hawken I have been looking at kits. I just haven't found one that gets great reviews. Any advice?
I think TC still offers one thru their custom shop but they don't offer them off the shelf like they used to. You might check Dixie Gun Works. Don't remember if I told you, I built mine in '82.
Thanks 007, I will check them out. I have just been looking at the Cabelas, Gander offerings so far.

Thank you everyone for all your advice. I appreciate it very much. A friend called me the other day and told me of a T/C Omega on "big time" sale, that I could not pass up. So, I immediately went and purchased it. I had decided that I was going to get a T/C, and ideally I would have preferred the Encore... but that's ok... I'm confident I'll still get my venison. Thanks again.
CVA and TC's both make great muzzle loaders. You shouldn't be disappointed. Happy hunting, and good luck! Might be some of the boys on here could give you advice on powder and lead that will help get you the best performance out of your new buy.
Well I just traided my old encore for the new FX (fixed barrel)encore prohunter this fall and it sited in at 50 yds holes touching. This fall I droped a 200lb buck with a shot high on the rib cage, then he got up and the neck shot put him down at 110 yds thu timber. And the barrel jump and felt recol is almost nothing. But I did like the looks ofm the CVA.
