Hunting

DNR's BOW

Uploaded on December 22, 2011

I am a big wildcrafter and started hunting this year. My step-dad told me about Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW). I was wondering if anyone on here has gone and if they enjoyed the courses offered? The DNR state website doesn't have much information and wanted to hear of others' experiences. Thanks!

YOU HAVE GOT TO GO! IT IS FANTASTIC! I WOULD GO AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT! I live in Wy and went to the one here sponsored by game and fish. It is fantastic, but each program varies state by state so my expereince might be a little different than yours. Wyoming offers fly fishing, fly tying, campfire cooking, photography, archery, rifle, handgun, into to firearms, shotgun, canoeing, big game hunting, backpacking, GPS/geocaching, ourdoor habitat. On break times - we got to go hiking to a waterfall, build lures, have some campfire fun, and even try yoga with the sunrise! I know our state program will post the classes and registration soon, and I bet that is why your state's DNR website is a little scant. Don't let that deter you- it takes a while to get the programs ready for the next year. SOme states really have programs for families, kids, etc. and you can go to any state's program. Good luck and let me know if I can be of assistance!

I taught the handgun class at some of the BOW workshops that we had here in WV for a couple of years. Since I retired I don't know if the program is still active or not. We had good attendence at the workshops for several years.

Dear Miss Judy (and everyone else interested): WYGF recently released the BOW program info for 2012. Here is the link with all the info: http://gf.state.wy.us/web2011/education-1000276.aspx. Now I gotta figure out what to pick for classes!
