Hunting and Fishing Gear Addicts Anonymous (HFGAA)

Uploaded on April 07, 2009

We've started an informal group called Hunting and Fishing Gear Addicts Anonymous (HFGAA). Our #'s are steadily growing, proving that many of us suffer from this disease. We're currently meeting in the ANSWERS section of this website, under BASS topic. We can meet here too, and work and share together to try to cope w/this all too common affliction. We do not judge, and membership is totally free. So don't be afraid to take that HUGE first step, and admit you have a problem, I have, and I'm a better man for it.

I have a GPS for no particular reason. Can I be included in your group? Also, I have spent $20 on a fishing lure for absolutely no reason. Sign me up.

jlfreeborn, bassgittinart, Wally Beevers: Welcome! It's great to see you show the courage to admit you have a problem. Taking that first step isn't easy, I know. HFGAA is glad to have you on board! Remember, there's no "cure" for HFGA, but together, we can learn to live with, and manage the disease. Because, really, who wants to be "cured"? Hell, if I quit buying hunting and fishing gear, then what would I turn to in order to get my fix? I shudder to think about it! Our goal is to CURB our addiction enough that we can avoid divorce and/or financial ruin. We don't preach, and we don't judge. Welcome to the family fellas!

Right now we need to do our part to boost the ecomony and sence my wife likes to fish, she agrees. There is no hope for me, would someone help me please!

Congrats bassgittinart for doing your part to boost the economy. That is a very good rationalization for buying more gear! If your wife supports your addiction, then you are in real trouble brother, REAL trouble. My wife's wrath is personally the biggest factor that keeps me from financial ruin. Hopefully the 2 of you can do some "stimulatin' w/o needing a "bailout" yourselves. Regardless, HFGAA is proud to have you!

OK. The lady in my life is reaching her patience limit for allowing me time to go hunting (deer hunting has a short season!) and fishing (their biting!). She has been generous in taking our daughter to school so I can get out - but in eed some support here. Thankfully there are others who understand my condition. Maybe we can hit two birds with one stone and work this out together, at the hunting shack, or while we're out on a boat....

My question is: Since I just refinanced my house, I don't have to make a house payment in November. I was thinking about using the money I would normally pay to buy a new rifle. Does this mean I'm an addict? Keep in mind that I already bought a new ladder stand last month, and was also in the market for a range finder.

Took me 12 years to find the right one. I was almost thirty when I married.
As season approaches, she asks to make sure I have all that is needed to bring home the venison!
I have a closet full of guns, so seldom to I get to acquire another. I have proven to her that "blued steel and walnut" is a good investment that will only increase in value.
She's never complained about purchasing a firearm. We have had some discussions about the timing of such purchases that I didn't always win!
When I drag a cooler full of bloody meat into the house, SHE is the first one in it. She will be sure to drag a loin out to place on the cutting board. Until THAT loin is cleaned up and prepared for the skillet, I AM NOT allowed to shower, unload vehicle, clean guns, change clothes.
She knows when the seasons begin and end. As the venison supply dwindles, she ASSIGNS me hunting dates!
