Uploaded on July 14, 2009

I just lost my right eye. I am 29 and have been hunting as long as i can remeber I have always used a 30-06. I am from the school if is not broke then don't fix it. I have always used a bolt action. Now I have to switch to a left handed gun and bow. I am looking for any advice. From guns make and model to action. There is just so much out there now I just don't know what to do. please help

I am left handed but have always shot a right handed gun. The only problem i have is with semi-autos, i developed a flinch after shooting a worn out .22 that blew back a few times. With modern bolt actions this is not a problem. Ruger does make a really nice left-handed gun though. With practice you can shoot your old 06 as fast as a lefty model.

Sorry about your eye. My Father was right-handed but blind in his right eye, so he always shot left-handed. His Savage 110 in 30.06 was a sweet rifle. My advice would be to get a .270. They're hell on deer, and since your left shoulder is unaccostumed to recoil, it'll jolt you less than an .06, w/o any loss in performance. As for bows, you might check w/your state. In Mo., my Dad was able to qualify for a crossbow permit allowing him to bowhunt legally w/a crossbow. Remington,Ruger, Winchester,Savage, they're all American gunmakers that make fine left-handed bolt actions. Good luck, and keep hunting!
