Deer Hunting
If you've hunted out of a 2-piece climbing stand for very long at all, you've probably had the top half of your climber noisilly slip down the tree when you took some pressure off of it. Not only can this be unnerving and dangerous, but if it happens when you are shifting your weight or rising to your feet to take a shot, chances are that its going to spook game.
To eliminate this problem, simply take a screw-in tree step or bow/gun holder and mount it in the tree just under the upper climber's cable that runs around the tree. I've never had any problem maneuvering my climber up and over this step when going up or down the tree on subsequent hunts and my upper half never slips. So if you plan on coming back to that tree just leave it in place for next time. If you plan on leaving it in all year long, make sure that you back in out a twist each season to allow for tree growth.
For safety's sake, remember to always tie a tether line between the two halves of your climber so that you never end up in a situation where the two halves are more that about 5 feet apart. This is especially important if you choose to secure the top half as I've described. Happy Hunting!
Not bad. I bungee the seat down to the platform when i get set to eliminate this problem.
GREAT TIP!! I'll try that this year. I've spooked quit a few deer because the upper part of the stand slips. I was almost ready to get a different climber. Thanks for the tip
Can't wait to try it out sounds like a great idea
great idea...dont wanna spook mr big, with any tree stand noise. and thats the last thing your thinking about when getting into position for a shot, so preparing before hand is key.
The tie down straps between the seat and platform should accomplish the same thing, as long as you have weight on one or the other. I suppose this would be a good backup in case the straps somehow came loos.
