If you go traditional I would suggest a recurve from PSE or Hoyt with at least 45# pull. In the world of compound you need to go to a bow shop and handle as many different bows as possible and they should allow you to loose some arrows with them. If not, find a better archery shop.Ask alot of questions!!!

This is a very hard question to answer for YOU. Go to ranges or shoot your friends bow and see what you prefer. All people have different preferences.

To begin to bow hunt I would want a bow that is going to make me want to keep bow hunting, try a PSE for life.

try a bowteck flatliner, it comes with a kit all installed for you, shoots great, fast, is silent, fun too shoot and can probably last a lifetime, i like mine a lot. and make sure the bow fits you good. it also haves a good price.

My first bow was an alpine frontier. I still own it and it is my only bow. I almost bought a new bow about 50 times in the last year but I could not realy justify it. The Alpine is quiet enough I can hit a target great, works super on elk :) it does not weigh much and it is inexpensive. I think Alpine is extremely underated and is a great bow they make higher end models but I realy like mine. At least take the tame to check them out no reason to spend 800 - 1000 bucks.
