F&S new Blog Generation Wild (April 8, 2010) New Blogger: Meet our Jr. Gun Nut, Jon Michael McGrath II has rekindled my thoughts about this New Generation. They are younger, they are faster and they are smarter taking Athletics to a higher level. I remember back when I was in Alaska, I had a chance to get involved with the Shooting Sports which included the University of Alaska and had the pleasure to work with U of A Athletic Director Randy Pitney who was a major player in all activities in Central Alaska and watching the Students excel. Which brings me to the problem we have today. We truly need to get our youth involved and if we don’t? You know the rest of the story!
It is not PC to allow student to get into shooting sports. I went to a very large high school with EVERY sport and club except shooting/archery.
Hunting and shooting is doomed because it is not PC to hunt or own a gun or shoot. So school districts and other organizations are cutting it out of the system. Meaning each year millions of kids do not get to be introduced to the wonderful sport. And consequently those millions of kids will have millions of kids who will not learn about the sport.
Teachers in community schools and universities are teaching society to hate hunting.
look at this clay: http://www.teachkind.org/
some school districts REQUIRE teachers to take kids outside and give children the idea that animals are families and have feelings and love etc.
Even many target shooters do not hunt because they think it is not PC
Clay we are a dying breed. I hate to say it but it is really possible that within 150-200 years hunting will be done.

You are not going to believe this but it's the Gods honest truth! I took a Special ED class on a field trip to the University of Classified for an hour of small bore shooting. The aim of the Field Trip was to see what impact it would have on the concentration and paying attention of the student in class. The next couple of days after the field trip, the Teacher told me they were noticeably calmer and showed more interest and longer attention span in class.
One more thing, back in 95 at Dysart High School I assisted in coaching the Army (did I say ARMY?) ROTC Air Rifle Team. I never seen in my life such a "RAG TAG TEAM" in my life. The worst equipment imaginable and the rifles where practically worn out but I taught them the best I could. At there Regional, those Jokers came in 2nd Place behind a team who's parents burn $100 bills to light there cigars, NO LIE GI!!!
There is no better time well spent than helping our youth. Particularly in the hunting and shooting sports. SALUTE!!!

I think that a lot of universities now days are beginning to offer shooting sports. For a while I went to Embry Riddle University where I got involved in the schools shooting club. High School do not offer them because a couple of years ago 6 kids in trench coats decided they wanted to mess it up for everybody by showing that young adults at the high school level were not mature enough to handle the respect the firearms deserve. Okay, so maybe in a way a lot of high school teens are not ready to handle firearms and never will be, but I believe that for every 10 immature teens who treats guns like they are harmless there is 1 smart teenager who gives the weapon the respect needed. This is why I think a lot of universities have began to start gun clubs and other shooting sports. At a college level immature young adults are filtered out and the ones you still make it become a little bit wiser College is a place where young adults like myself get a chance to grow up and explore our interests whether they be shooting or business administration.
