Deer Hunting

Getting the wife into Bow Hunting?

Uploaded on July 21, 2009

All right, the wife has finally asked what all this hunting stuff was all about and would like to try her hand. What are the best ways to introduce her into the sport and what type of equipment do your wives use?

I got my wife an Alpine Sienna. It has a wide range of adjustments in terms of draw weight and draw length. It is very efficient so it delivers high kinetic energy at relatively light draw weights. It has low hand shock. I would recommend that you have someone else fit the bow and give her some introductory lessons. A wise man once told me that your marriage will be better if you have someone else teach your wife to drive a manual transmission or how to paddle a canoe. I believe that this advice holds for shooting as well. Look for a bow hunter safety class that has either a woman instructor (rare) or has women signed up. Camaraderie is one of the best parts of hunting. Finally, we enjoy preparing the deer meat together, including both the butchering and making sausage. Every year we try a new recipe for sausage. While we are not organic fanatics, my wife appreciates knowing the meat was carefully prepared with a natural diet. (Much of the beef now comes from disgusting feed lots.)

After chasing the deer out of her garden all summer, she is looking forward to opening day of the deer season.

My wife wouldn't come close, your a lucky man. Does she hunt anything else? Has she seen Bambi? (that was a joke) Some times if you have a person that hasn't grown up around hunting or animals or a farm, might need to start slow. If she hasn't hunted see how she acts dove hunting. If she handles that ok and don't start talking about animals feelings or what thier familys will think when they don't fly home, you got a Hunting Partner. Just take it easy and slow so you don't turn her away at the begining. If my wife ever watched me dress a deer we wouldn't eat Venison anymore. Then again she might jump right in with both feet. Good Luck.

My wife loves to hike, and when I asked her if she wanted to hike with me on a 3-D shoot so we could spend some time together she said yes. She is right handed, but left eye dominant. After reading what I could and asking questions of friends who are pro shooters I acquired a left handed Hoyt youth/ small framed persons bow for her to shoot. I am still working on getting her to shoot, but one of my friends wives shoots and I hope she will work with my wife.
My wife has gone rifle hunting with me and has enjoyed just being out. We both feel the time together with out the kids, out in the woods, and making memories together are what really matter.
When you get gear, remember it does not have to be new, it needs to fit her, and be quality equipment. If you get cheap stuff that does not fit her,it will not be fun. Go through your hunting gear, ask your self if I skimped on this would I be less comfortable? Would it make a difference? Do you want your wife to be happy, comfortable, and more understanding? Apply these questions to gear for your wife.

I'v been hunting for 6 years now and every season bow came around I hated that I coulnt go out and was missing lots of hunting time. So last year for Christmas my fiance got me a crossbow and I LOVE IT! Shot my first buck this year, 9 pointer :) . So If she has trouble pulling back a bow have her shoot the crossbow for a while, im shooting over 300fps! Good luck guys with your hunting wifes :) we are expensive when we love the sport of hunting huh! lol

I outfitted mine with some good running shoes. Oh, she worked out great for awile, retrieving birds, dragging deer and such. But it didn't matter how much huntin we did, she never really got into it. Glad I didn't spend alot on them shoes.
