Deer Hunting

Ohio Public Land Whitetails

Uploaded on April 06, 2009

Going to Ohio (southeast) in Early November to bowhunt Whitetails on Public Land. How high should i set my sights. I'm definetly holding out for a Personal best buck (120" class) but not sure if I should hold out for better. Anyone with experience in the area, i'd appreciate your input. I'm assuming we can only shoot one buck? Haven't done much research yet.

You can only shoot one buck, and chances are good that you'll see one. You are obviously going during some of the best days of hunting in the state. If you see fresh activity of the rut I would recommend finding and hunting a busy scrape line, and get to your stand early and be prepared for a bruiser to show up before daylight or in the last twenty minutes of legal shooting hours. I shot a 130 class buck in Southeast Ohio during the same time of year and he was checking scrapes right at sunset. You will be there pre-gun season so the deer shouldn't be too edgy yet. If you see one that breaks 120 I would recommend taking it regardless of the day of the week; on public land you might not see him for the rest of the time you are there. Good Luck!
