My lab Berg the longest I have ever seen him go is about 100 yard's after a crippled bird in big water and at only ten month's old now he has been the best retriever I have ever had.
Not longest nut most memorable was when my lab Ellie went after a pheasant. It was December and the river was frozen in most places, except for the tractor crossing. Well the bird fell on the other side of the open water and she went after it but instead of going around she went right into the freezing water. But the best part was how, you see she never saw the water so as she took off full blast she hit the water and went all the way under. She popped up like nothing happened got the bird and brought it back, right through the water again, but this time she knew the water was there.
my golden retrever swam after a duck for about 250 yds before I called her back . I was afraid she would not make it.
