Dental floss Don't Get Lost Without It

Uploaded on October 28, 2010

Pack one or two packages of floss in your kit. You get a 100 yards per. Aside from dental hygiene it is incredibly strong. It can be used to sew buttons or any material. The button will break before the floss. It is sterile so you can stitch a wound. You can tie down a tent or tarp as long as you don't wrap it over a sharp edge. It is fine so you can fabricate animal snares. You can use it as a hand line to fish, it knots better than mono. Between two make shift handles used in the fashion of a garrot you can cut most meat, all prepared meat and cheese. You can use this any place you would use string or thin rope. All this in a package 1.5" x 1.5" x .5" and weighing less than 1/2 oz. all neatly kept with a built in cutter. If that isn't enough it was use to successfuly tie up James Bond in one Ian Flemings first books.

Excellent tip. It has had a permanent place in my pocket kit for years. Some cordage is a must and the dental floss has a lot of strength and versatility for its weight and size.

Even at home, if you have to sew torn outdoor gear, dental floss is the only way to go. Sewn right, it's stronger than original stitching, even the stitching on packs, etc.
