MRE's for a bugout bag

Uploaded on September 14, 2011

Looking to put together a bug out bag for my wife, two teenage kids and I. I already saw some of the bugout bag ideas and they looked good.

My question is what should I get for food. I like the idea of MREs, but not sure where to get them or if I can get actual MREs. I looked at some commercial brands, but the shelf life didn't look that great on the ones I saw. Anyone have any ideas/experence with this?

You can get MREs at The Sportsman's Guide:
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/browse/camping-kitchen-food.aspx?c=83...
Make sure you look at their 'Grab & Go' meals too.

Also, here is a great book on the subject that I'm in the process of reading: "When All Hell Breaks Loose: Stuff You Need To Survive When Disaster Strikes" by Cody Lundin

Thanks for the tips. I ended up getting some good unopened MRE packages from a place called Camping Survival for a good price (though getting them took a while). I also found a pretty good set up bug out bag at Orchard Supply Hardware of all places. It didn't have everything I wanted, but it was a good start at a good price. I'll be ordering Cody's book, and saw some stuff I like at majorsurplus for house. Thanks again,
Chris
