Survival
A survival kit is useless if it is too bulky and is left at home for even the most basic of outings. All of the items in your kit should be able to fit inside an altoids or tobacco tin. The inside of the tin can be polished to a mirror like finish if needed and act as a signalling mirror. The kit should also include, but is not limited to the following items:
-Flint & striker
-Waterproof strike anywhere matches (broken in half to save space)
-Cotton balls (tinder and prevents items from rattling around)
-10 ft of snare wire
-6 small hooks
-6 small splitshot sinkers
-Bandaids
-Butterfly sutures
-Razor blade or flat 2 edged broadhead blade
-Needles wrapped with braided 10lb test fishing line
-Triple anti-biotic ointment
-Anti-histamine tablet (benedryl for allergic reactions)
-Aspirin (in case of emergency heart attack)
-Ibuprophen (pain relief for injuries)
-Wire saw
-Small piece of candy or chocolate
-Electrolyte packet or tablets
-Water purification tablets
-Button compass
-Boullion cube or packet
-Mini magnifying glass (can be found with most eye-glasses repair kits)
-Compact emergency whistle
-Birthday candle (preferably the trick ones that are difficult to extinguish)
-Condom (used for a water bag)
Seal the seam with electical tape to waterproof, then add a couple of wraps of duct tape for additional water proofing and to have duct tape handy. There you have it...a survival kit that is compact enough to take on day hikes, and has more than enough gear to cover your basic needs in case of an emergency.
To muffell it you could also use tp so you got fire starter and if you have somthing against leaves somthing to wipe with
shouldn't you always have a compass on you anyway? Or is the one in the kit a backup?
i have made one like that and is nice to have
I like it. I used something similar for years. Don't forget some line to go with the hooks and the condom must be unlubricated and replaced each season. Couldn't agree more that your kit needs to fit in a pocket to ensure that you will have it if you ever need it. Good tip.
