Electric cars and CO2 emissions

Uploaded on March 17, 2013

It seems that electric cars emit more CO2 in their lifetime than a regular car of the same size does, which doesn't really matter anyway since global warming isn't real. What does matter however, is the fact that the government pumped 5.5 billion dollars of taxpayer money into these stupid things.

First of all back up your claims.
If this is accurate you are showing just how dirty coal is. 3rd congratulations on having a step up on 97% of the earths scientists.

You don't back up your claims?

They said on the news today an electric car makes twice the amount of co2 as a standard car.

The earth has been warming since the last ice age and particularly the last 100 years, i think the discussion is how much people have had to do with it.

The reality of electrical cars is that in most parts of the U.S. you are using coal to run your car electric car. The other truth is that even if you're drawing from an area the electric grid that is mostly coal fed, you are still only putting about half the CO2 into the atmosphere than you would with a gas powered car. Frontloading the combustion is much more efficient way to power a car in terms of reducing emissions.

If you live in an area with more natural gas powered electrical generating plants (like the west coast) then you're producing even less CO2.

It gets even a little more complicated than that. If you live someplace like the Midwest where almost all electricity comes from coal,, then you're better off with a hybrid than an electric or a gas car in terms of cutting CO2.

I researched all this when looking for a small car we could afford to drive on long trips...the Explorer was killing us, the truck is even worse. I ended up with a gas powered small car...there are other things to look at with electric cars and hybrids like battery life, reliability, and maintenance costs. In the end for me, the savings in gas didn't make up for the higher purchase cost and questions over maintenance cost and reliability.

The whole electric, hybrid, gas powered car issue is a perfect example of how the political/media distorts and editorializes everything. The economics of the issue can't be explained in a sound bite. But, it can be distorted to one political view or the other.

Thank you allegnmtn,
When you correctly state that "It gets even a little more complicated than that", we lose a portion of the audience.

Coal isn't dirty anymore. Not with the latest EPA regulations of the use of SCRUBBERS. It must be the smoke that has IOJOLSEN so emotional. And you are right, MAN INDUCED..global warming was a liberal scam that has been exposed through intercepted emails, scientists reports, and drove Al Gore underground with all the money he made promoting the scam.
