    SxS Review: 2014 Kawasaki Teryx

    0

    By Lance Schwartz

    2014 Kawasaki Teryx LE
    MSRP: Teryx LE - $14,999; Teryx Camo - $14,299; Teryx - $12,999

The Kawasaki Teryx has been a popular choice in the SxS market since its introduction back in 2008. For 2014, Kawasaki redesigned the original two-seater Teryx to roll on the same chassis as the Teryx4, a four-seater with a redesigned chassis, longer wheelbase, and enhanced creature comforts like Electronic Power Steering (EPS) that was released in 2012.

The 2014 Teryx is considered a sport/utility SxS rather than just targeting the pure sport, or pure utility market. Jumping into the sport/utility category of SxSs is risky business; mostly because the vehicle must be designed to perform two completely different tasks well: the suspension needs to be plush enough to pamper the passengers at slow speeds without running out of suspension travel at high speeds. After spending a considerable amount of time behind the wheel of the 2014 Teryx, Kawasaki has definitely gotten it right. And the Teryx is now more comfortable, capable, and competitive than ever before. [ Read Full Post ]

SxS Field Test: 2014 Yamaha Viking

    0

    By Peter B. Mathiesen

During the summer I mentioned the highly anticipated release of the new Viking, Yamaha’s latest addition to its side-by-side family. Last week I was lucky enough to test this machine on a whitetail hunt in western Oklahoma.

As expected, the Viking has smart updates that did not disappoint. The Viking holds three across in bucket seats and the stance is 61.8 inches wide to accommodate for this. The center seat is tilted back to ingeniously keep all the occupants from rubbing shoulders. [ Read Full Post ]

    SXS Review: 2014 Can-Am Maverick

    2

    By Lance Schwartz

2013 Can-Am Maverick, Full Line Review
    MSRP: $16,299 - Base Model; $17,799 - Maverick X rs; $18,799 - Maverick X rs DPS models; $21,499 - Maverick 1000 X mr

When Can-Am announced the new 2013 Maverick 1000 last fall, I hypothesized that this would just be the beginning of Can-Am’s foray into the sporty SxS market. For 2014, Can Am proved me right by making some basic evolutionary changes to the Maverick, ranging from simple new color offerings to all-new models like the four-seat Maverick Max. However, the biggest news was the introduction of several new “packages” (with really confusing names) designed to help meet the needs of the fast-growing and ever-changing SxS market — by tailoring these machines to better fit specific types of users.    [ Read Full Post ]

    Does Your ATV Spook Deer?

    5

ATVs and deer season are inextricably linked. There's little question that many quad owners use their machines in the fall to set up stands, get to a hunting site, and recover game.

While hunters are spending large sums of cash for a new wheeler, this may be a good time to ask the following question: Do UTVs and ATVs really scare game?

    Fear Factor
    By Peter B. Mathiesen

After a couple of decades of hunting with gas-powered wheelers and plenty of field experience with electrics, I've learned a few lessons. [ Read Full Post ]
