Hero for a Day 2013: Saving Mule Deer and Pronghorn Fawns in Arizona
Volunteers with the Mule Deer Foundation in Prescott, Arizona, removed barbed wire fencing, which endangers mule deer and pronghorn young, and replaced it with wildlife-friendly smooth wire along three miles of fenceline.
Anyone can be a conservation hero for one day. An extension of Field & Stream's Heroes of Conservation initiative, Hero for a Day highlights grassroots conservation projects in local communities across the country, and connects you, our readers, with opportunities to help restore or improve wildlife habitat in your area.
Tell us about your project on the entry form. If your workday is selected, Field & Stream will publicize the project and help recruit volunteers to pitch in. In addition to promoting the project, we will supply gift bags with items such as F&S and Toyota merchandise (while supplies last) to those participating.
Forms will be assessed as they come in. No project is too small, but it should be related to hunting or fishing in some way.
We’re going across America this spring to showcase ten inspiring Hero for a Day volunteer projects. Explore each workday and find out how you can get involved. Check back often as we reveal new projects.
Since 2011, Field & Stream has visited 16 volunteer conservation workdays across the U.S. to highlight volunteer Heroes and the great strides they are making for fish, game, and habitat.
