F&S Hook Shots, Episode 1: American Shad

In this first-ever Field & Stream "Hook Shots" episode, Joe Cermele chases American shad with local guide Dieter Scheel on the Central Delaware River in New Jersey during the annual April run. These shad fall to flutter spoons held in the current at different depths behind an anchored boat. Females, or "roes," can actually hit the eight-pound mark. Interestingly, American shad do not feed on their journey upriver from the Atlantic Ocean. Theories abound, but most believe they strike out of aggression or simple curiousity.

This was awesome. Please give us more.

And ignore that guy about the music. Fishing shows without music are boring as hell.

Great job. Entertaining and educational. I fish my ass off and I'm also a musician. So, regarding the music, it might need to be a little less specific and more general in the sense that when someone listens to it, they barely notice it, incidentally speaking, that is. But it's your show!!

Great quality video, (thanks Dad), very nice editing. The pizza segment was outstanding!!!

I have never been on the Deleware, but that is the birthplace of shad fishing. I love the Roanoke and the Tar shad fishing here in NC, and hope to make it up that way. The shad run they get up there shows that no dams = great fishing.
