Q:Thanks for the prayers for my dog, Pearl. Got a second opinion today and I'm very happy to say the dignosis was much different and the prognosis definitely encouraging. It appears Pearl has "vesticular disease." It's an inflamation of the nerve leading to the inner ear. Curiously, this as often or not does not involve an ear infection and she clearly does not have on. Pearl is likely simply suffering from vertigo. And if it is vesticular disease, it should go away on its own in four or five days. If not, then we may be looking at something more serious. But the symptoms sure point to this as the cause. Particularly her head being dropped and cocked to one side (the side with the affected nerve). The vet watched her negotiate her way to the car when the exam was finished and she said she'd be surprised if it was anything but vesticular. She also indicated this is a very common problem with dogs. I have to wonder how many grief stricken owners in the old days just destroyed a good dog prematurely thinking they were "putting it out of its misery." I started this as a new thread because I think everyone should know about it. Hopefully, Chad can start something over in the dog blog about it someday. Again, thanks everyone for your kind thoughts and concern. Glad there's still something left in my account at this bank.

Q:A prayer for my lab, Pearl. She's only seven and apparently suffered a stroke this morning. We hope. No facility to do a CT Scan except possibly in Minneapolis, eight hours away. She is in good spirits but hanging her head to one side and falling over. Eyes reacting well and even, good circulation in her gums too. We have already had three lumps cut off her in the last couple of years but she has been clean for quite a while. I am praying that she doesn't have a brain tumor. Having a heck of a time keeping her quiet. She wants to play with the pup. She obviously doesn't know something is wrong. Not looking good. Vet tried to be optimistic but I think that's largely because he knows what I have been through already. It sure seems those who love me are cursed. Life as a hermit might be a necessity - for the sake of communiy safety.
