Hanging Your Tree Stand While Bow Hunting

Q:OK how many time have you got to the stand only to find you have forgotten to dawn your safety harness? Go up the tree with out. I use a climber and for the most part I use a harness, but I have in the past used the climber without a safety harness on a tree I am familiar with. Go up or go home? Second question do most of you use a ratchet strap along with your climbers?

Hanging Your Tree Stand While Bow Hunting

Q:I have never hunted out of (or even put up) ladder stands before and I bought two different used ladder stands over the winter. Other than the straps, is there anything else that I will need to put them up? I assume that I can find some instructions on-line and that most ladder stands are basically the same. Am I right?

Hanging Your Tree Stand While Bow Hunting

Q:How high do you like to go into the trees with your tree stand and do you have a preference for tree species to hunt from? I usually like to go about 20' if possible, preferrable in a white pine with a good canopy for visual and scent concealment. Seems like anything more makes for too sharp shooting angles if the deer is too close, and anything much less makes you too visible from the ground. Your thoughts? Good hunting, stay safe.
