Break the Chain

Break the Chain

By Kim Hiss

I apologize for going off topic again, but this is serious. I was just sitting down to start a blog post when I checked my email, and found a chain letter from a close friend. I now have 3 hours to forward the message to 10 people or someone I love could die in a freak accident.
So here I sit, with 180 minutes on the clock, facing a terrible choice. Do I -- a person who's alreadyChain
debilitatingly superstitious -- give into the e-paranoia, drop what I'm doing and send the email to 10 other addresses? Bear in mind that forwarding the message could save lives. Or, do I tell myself these emails are mere spam that prey on the insecurities of the recipient and should be deleted on sight? Not forwarding the message could spare 10 unsuspecting people from having to face this dilemma themselves. I still can't decide. And I'm down to 170 minutes.
Do you delete chain mails the minute you get them, or obediently send them along? Say you're late for an appointment when one of these emails pops up saying you have one hour to forward it to 15 people. Doing so would ensure a beautiful 16-point that fall. Not doing so would mean a meatless season. Would you sent it just in case? Or would you take a stand against e-superstition, declare "This chain stops with me," and boldly hit delete? It's a moral test of the highest order, and I, for one, am still struggling through it.
     And I have 160 minutes to go. - K.H.

I'd say don't send any out, sure you could save 1 person but also could be killing 10 more in the process!Yeah, right.

Well I'm now proof that it's not all that bad to delete this chain junk mail. I filled my 2nd and last Ohio Turkey Tag on Sunday! It was a Cold, Wet morning, but well worth it!!

Delete. Some of that junk has spywear attached some is just innocent fun. Read them if you must, laugh at the comedy, then flush it! Break the chain!

I delete most of what I get in my email box, even if I enjoy reading it I usually don't send to many people. I would rather risk the damages from the chain than send it on to more people, who probably want to deal with it even less than I do.

I delete these emails and curtly send an email to the person who sent it to me and politely ask that they do not forward their junk mail to me because I don't have time for petty emails. I ask them to value my time as I would theirs. My Mother is the world's worst about sending these time and space wasting emails to me and I usually am not as polite in my emails back to her about not wasting my time.I do believe in bad karma, I just don't believe that my destiny is carved out by what I do with an email.... unless it is a bonafied winning email from something I entered.Do as you choose but if you don't want a person to keep forwarding you the junk from their email--I would curtly email them back a response saying so. It has kept my inbox clutter free doing so.

Sometimes you just hate to open your email as most days it is loaded with junk. All the milarky about "if you don't forward this..." it goes from health issues to never finding a missing shoes. Most of it is laughable and I just hit the delete button. Chances are someone willl send you the same thing tomorrow.However... October 2006 I shot a beautiful buck with my bow and there wasn't alot of good sign so my husband and I just backed out. I was sick to say the least that I may have wounded the animal and spent the whole sleepless night worrying about it. My son had the next day off and assured me he would go look.I got to work and opened my email. In it from my brother was one of those emails to either forward it and something good would happen..OR ELSE! Today would be my test so I forwarded it, made my wish that my buck would be found and waited.Believe it or not, within an hour my son called and had found my buck not very far from where I had shot from my tree stand.I have told that story every time I tell the story of the harvest of the buck. Made me a believer that day.Hundreds of those very same emails have hit my in box and some I have wished on and forwarded, others have been deleted.I still go to work every day so my wish to win a million dollars has never been fulfilled.=)

Most of 'em get deleted. A few, if the story line is good, might get passed on, but not to the requisite number of people to keep me from having bad luck, or losing a best friend, etc.I send on the ones that make a political statement...especially in this election year....that I happen to agree with. But then I only send it to the folks to happen to share my views. So I guess I'm "selectively superstitious"!

My mom and my aunt send me those crazy chain things. I delete them all. I may read them, but then they're gone. Same with the urban myth letters such as, watch out for guys under your car, or beware of men with perfume samples. It's funny that these same letters come around at least once a year.

Delete That Baby!! LolI find myself deleting at least 75% of those, unless they're funny or catch my eye in some way. But the few that do slip in and get me to forward I rarely send to the specific amount listed. Although...now that you mention it I haven't downed me a buck for the past two seasons and I have that one last Turkey Tag to fill as this Sat & Sun is the last days... Excuse me please, I NEED TO GO CHECK ME E-MAIL!!LOL
