Why I Love "Trash" Fish.

By Tim Romano & Kirk Deeter

Could it be the over-powering stench of the wastewater treatment plant when I open the car door? Doubt it. What about the possible human remains found on the river bottom? Uh, not so sure about that either... The barbed wire fences, or giant dead bloated rats floating in the water? Nope. Could it be the thousands of pounds of trash lodged in the trees or effluent streaming by my bare legs? I really don't think so.

Perhaps it's the fact that I can go anywhere in America and have a legitimate shot at a 30 lb fish all for the cost of a gallon of gas and a bottle of water. That's why I love trash fish on the fly.

I remember the days of trash fishing as a kid, but I guess I grew out of it. You might have convinced me to give it a go again.

KevinPA,The glove IS weak. I'll make sure to pass it on to my fishing buddy Will Rice. I was giving him crap about it the other day. He claims it's so he can get a better "grip" on the fish. Uh, right...

Boys - Sorry for the delay in being a tardy responder lately but I have not been home. Catching up finely. As you fish for the poor man bone - give me a call on the weekends and I will be in the salt after Sea Trout, Reds, and Snook from a kayak. The salt splash is more than what you read. You must give it a shot.

Really Keowee Plugger? Why's that? I think this is "getting out". Outside my comfort zone anyway... Where do you fish? Where would you recommend I go?

Yea, I use an 8 wt too... you need the extra backbone to pull in those 20's and 30's.

jstreet,I think you just took that one a bit to far... Gross man!I do love fishing and over the past two weeks have been hooked up to some beasts down town. I started out with a five weight being all macho, but yesterday went down armed with an 8 wt with much better results. It's pretty nasty, but really worth it.

I love it as well! Not sure if I would have been fishing at that certain spot, too damn nasty for me. But I do have some secret spots I like to go to, for some big carp.

Maybe you could take some of the "effluent" water and make a tangy sauce for your bottom feeder filets. You sure must love to fish more than I do.Jim
