Illinois Teen Lands 4.52-Pound, Record Crappie
By Dave Hurteau & Chad Love
From the Belleville News-Democrat:
Marcus Miller is officially in the record books. . . .
Officials knew it was the biggest crappie on record in Illinois. They just didn't know what kind it was -- black or hybrid.
Tissue samples from the fish were sent to Champaign for electrophoretic testing, or genetic analysis, to determine the species. Last week, the answer came in: It was a hybrid crappie. . . [shattering] the previous record for hybrid crappie (2 pounds, 13 ounces). . . . .

Thank you Teak Phillips for your reply.
Yes, a hybrid is a cross between a white and black crappie.
