Killer Fish: New study says there are more venomous fish than snakes

Lionfishes, scorpionfishes, weeverfishes, toadfishes, surgeonfishes, scats, jacks, rabbitfishes, stargazers, and stonefishes are just a few of the 1,200 venomous fish counted in a recent study by the American Museum of Natural History. The total is six times that of previous estimates and outnumbers the sum of all other venomous vertebrates combined. More than 50,000 people are poisoned by fish bites every year—a fact fishermen might do well to remember.
