Maybe hall-of-famer Wade Boggs was onto something with his superstition of eating chicken before every baseball game. Not long after we finished lunch, the bite really picked up—and so did the size of the bass. I duped this bass on a white-pearl Zoom Super Fluke.

There isn't anything better then a day fishing with a good friend for smallmouth bass.

The Meramec is one of my favorite rivers for both smallies and trout. Glad you had a good time... It's normally a great fly fishing river, but it looked like the water was just too off-color then.
