North Dakota - Lake Sakakawea This massive reservoir on the Missouri River system has produced a number of state records, including a 5-pound 9-ounce smallmouth bass and a 37-pound 8-ounce northern pike. Covering a staggering 365,000 acres, the lake also harbors crappies, trout, saugers, white bass, and yellow perch. The trick is to choose a species and zero in on the right bait choice. The east end, above the dam, is always a good place in June. Sakakawea Outfitters, 701-487-3683;

I know I've been working overseas for a few years now, but I have really been gone so long that I don't remember U.S. geography correctly. I nearly choked when I saw KANSAS included in your Rocky Mountain West "Best Fishing Spots!" At what point did they move the entire state far enough to include ANY PART of the Rockies???
AND North Dakota? Who categorizes this stuff?!?! There are NO MOUNTAINS in North Dakota... TRUST ME, I've been there and it's the most scenically bereft place I think I've ever been. Even if you're going there to fish, it's ranks near the bottom for visual impact!
