Alex, you're only saying that because you don't have a driver's license yet.

I am a flyfisherman and a native Alaskan, as such I would advise you to bring me along for your next AK trip. I also have a drivers license. Looking forward to reading your story.

You forgot to mention Chum salmon absolutely stink once they get in fresh water. Can't stand the smell. There's a reason Sourdoughs call them dog salmon. I wonder if you guys fished my favorite stream. The one in the photo that shows loads of Silvers. It's in my photo file. No, I'm not giving away the name here. That stream is easy to reach and not full of tourists. In fact I never saw an out of stater there. Bet the locals didn't give it away.

Nah, I ain't sayin' that because my lack of a drivers license, I do own some sweet bikes though ( pedal and motor cross) and I fish with those, you want a story? come out my way and bring a bike, we will see how long you last...

Just like goldstyle, I would advise that I come along on the next trip. Unlike goldstyle, I have absolutely no good reason for suggesting it and am nearly hopeless with a fly rod.

I long for a large salmonid. Did find myself in a good hatch and pulled a hat trick in the Smokey Mountains this past weekend but most of the trout struggled to put a bend in a 3wt.

Del I live in Delta Junction for a year, and fished a lot there, your right sourdoughs actually feed Chum Salmon to the dogs! The Only Salmon we ate up there was Kings or in a real pinch Silvers!

Man I go back and forth, sometimes I feel like pink years are the way to go because of all the extra food in the water, but sometimes there are so many it's a hassle to even trout fish. I love when the egg bite is on full swing and your bringing in FAT dollies and rainbows that are actually regurgitating eggs as you go to release them...

It is nice to know that someone has the opportunity to GET OUT! Bows on the Willow River in Alaska slightly larger than the average in WI on the Rush and Bois Brule.

Additional Info

In August of 2008, Joe Cermele and Mark Wizeman fished across Alaska in a motor home with a budget of $200 a day. The duo hit a different world-class trout and salmon river between Denali and Ninilchik every day and spent less than $2,800 on the entire trip. These are photo outtakes from the adventure and some inside dirt on their travels.

Day-by-day details, plus a map, budget breakdown, and gear checklist you can follow to make the same trip, can be found in the July 2009 issue of Field & Stream in the story "The Alaska Experiment."
