An Almost-Record Togue
John Geiger, of Rockton, Illinois, caught this enormous lake trout on July 11, out of Tazin Lake, which is located in the northwest corner of Saskatchewan, Canada. The fish was 50 inches long with a 33 1/2-inch girth. Its estimated weight, 70 pounds, puts it just 2 pounds shy of the all-tackle record. It hit a silver-and-blue T-55 flatfish.
Geiger's guide, Sean Coleman (owner of Tazin Lake Lodge) is shown here holding the fish.

I've always loved the look of lake trout, they remind me of some sort of perhistoric looking fish and this monster only makes me believe it more.
Wow. That has got to feel so cool to catch a fish of that magnitude. I can only dream of taking a trip and catching a fish of that size.
