Following its highly successful introduction of the Versa Max in 2010, Remington is introducing the Versa Max Sportsman for 2013. The Sportsman uses the exact same auto-loading system as the Versa Max but it comes with less features. It doesn’t feature molded grips, an adjustable comb, or length of pull kit. One Remington rep described it as “a gun in a box.” The trade off is that the Sportsman does feature a lighter price tag. The Sportsman MSRP stands at about $1,000, while the Versa Max runs for $1,400. Gauge: 12 (2 3/4 – 3 1/2 inch)

Meet Big Green’s newest bargain rifle: the 783. Remington built the gun hoping to meet the sweet spot between accuracy and affordability. Its MSRP is only $451 (which is a few bucks cheaper than the Ruger American and Weatherby Vanguard 2, if you’re keeping track). The gun comes with a CrossFire trigger system that is factory set at 3.5 pounds and user adjustable from 2.5 pounds to 5 pounds. Calibers: .270 Win., .30-06, .308, 7mm Rem. Mag.

We don’t know much about this gun yet except that it doesn’t have a lot in common with previous A-bolts. Besides the shroud and the handle, the bolt is totally different. The trigger is also all-new, and the gun features a drop-out magazine, which is a change from the hinged floorplate magazines in the original A-bolts. The gun has a composite stock and will be available in .223 up to .300 Win. Mag. It will retail for about $600. Stay tuned for an update on this rifle after we do a full report later in the show.
Glock gave media its first look at the newest addition to its line of subcompact handguns at SHOT Show 2013’s Media Day at the Range. The conceal and carry hybrid pistol, chambered in .45 ACP (10 round capacity), consists of a factory-made Glock 36 slide on top of a 30SF frame. Unlike many subcompacts, the magazine is extended a bit, not to add ammo capacity, but to give shooters with larger hands a place to set their pinkies (and ring fingers for those with extra big mitts). A common complaint from Glock haters is that the light polymer bodies coupled with much heavier steel slides result in significant muzzle flip when the gun is chambered in larger calibers. On the new 30S, there’s more steel than polymer, because of its compact size, resulting in very little muzzle flip and quick second-shot target acquisition. Dimensions

Remington’s Model 1911 R1 Carry features a crisp trigger, dovetailed front and rear sights, precision-machined slide and frame, and checkered American walnut grips. This is as smooth as an out-of-the-box 1911 gets. The frame and slide have been de-horned for a cleaner draw from a concealed holster. Other features include a beavertail grip safety with checkered memory bump, checkered front strap and mainspring housing, ambidextrous safety, Novak Sights with Tritium Front Night Sight, Cocobolo grip panels, machined skeletonized aluminum match trigger, enhanced hammer, and a lowered and flared ejection port. The Triple Threat from Chiappa is a unique three-barreled break gun. The 12-gauge, 3-inch scattergun has one trigger and fires the three barrels in clockwise order as quickly as you can pull. Even with the extra barrel, it handled like a double-barrel and is well balanced. The Triple Threat will be offered in three configurations with removable chokes including a sporting model with a full length stock and barrel, a coach gun configuration with shortened barrels and a shoulder stock, and a pistol-grip defensive model. The full-length (28-inch barrels) and pistol grip versions were on hand at Range Day and they both were surprisingly awesome. They were also the same gun, other than barrel length, as the stock can be partially disassembled, making it a pistol grip. Product specs were not available at Range Day. MSRP: Approx. $1,500
Springfield debuted a 9mm pistol to its XD line of handguns. The XDs 9mm has a higher magazine capacity than its .45 ACP predecessor, and the lessened recoil from the smaller 9mm rounds results in less muzzle flip and allows for better second target acquisition. With a single-stack magazine holding 7 to 10 rounds, this handgun packs a lot of power into a small, easy to control package. Specs: Caliber: 9mm

Heckler & Koch is now offering a well selected accessory package with its popular MR762A1 chambered in 7.62×51 mm NATO. And it’s a heck of an assemblage, making it a precision rifle. Mounted on top is a Leupold 3-9VX-R Patrol 3-9 x 40mm scope. Also included are an HK adjustable cheekpiece buttstock and a LaRue Tactical BRM-S bipod. A semi-auto rifle originally developed from the fully automatic HK417, the MR762A1 LRP employs the same HK proprietary gas piston operating system found on current HK rifles and carbines, which uses a “pusher” rod in place of the gas tube normally found in AR-style firearms. Additional accessories include an ERGO Pistol Grip from Falcon Industries, a Blue Force Gear sling, and an OTIS cleaning kit. The rifle package, along with one 20-round magazine and one 10-round magazine is shipped with the scope attached in a 42-inch Model 1720 Pelican case. Rifle Specs:

The Zip uses Ruger 10/22 magazines in a bullpup configuration and has no slide. Instead it has a chambering rod and a cocking rod position above the barrel, allowing for the top of the gun to be swapped out for an attachment rail or even for a ZIPSBR, an attachment that lets you mount this little contraption under your AR, if you so choose. It’s simple, fun to shoot, and with an MSRP of $199, it can be a fun little gun that eats cheap ammo. From a few minutes at the range, it was obvious some high pressure .22 LR ammo would help it cycle better. And for $15, you can buy a replacement pack that includes new springs and a new bolt face. The TX-12 is a single shot, 12-gauge shotgun system designed for breaching applications or any situation where you might need the power of a 12-gauge when not carrying a shotgun. Similar to the M203 grenade launcher used in the military, the TX-12 is attached underneath the barrel. It feels light–and weighs in at under 1 kilogram, barely affecting the balance and maneuverability of the rifle to which it’s attached. Users fire with their weak hand, gripping the rifle’s magazine.
