ill trade a tip for a tip. ill use the 1/2full tic tacs tip (thanks!), and ill add another tip for all to use. use a telescopic crappie pole (16ft) for a "treestand guage" so when you find a good tree you can lean the pole up agianst it instead of havin to lug a stand around.

Exellent tips! THANKS! I cut old bicycle inner tubes into rubber bands and wrap a couple around the lighter that I always carry in winter (though I don't smoke). It keeps the lighter from sliding out of my pocket and also serves as a great, waterproof, emergency fire starter.

Great tips. I like 14 especially, because I have the same problem with my hooks getting really mixed up. I am going to grab a couple safety pins and go organize them now.

Another bad idea, never change the contents of a container without first changing the label.

Hunting Tip: On of the big problems Big Game hunters have is cooling down their
Big Game animal after the kill. I use 1 Gallon Milk Jugs with screw on lids filled with clean water. Fill them about 3/4 full and freeze them. They fit easily into a cooler. Then put 2-3 jugs inside the carcass after you gut it. Really cools them down fast. This is cheaper than buying ice and you can add replacements as needed. Depending on what size animal you kill, will depend on how many jugs you need. Usually 2 for deer or antelope three for elk. If you are not successful, you can always use extra water to drink etc. Plastic milk jugs are virtually free and reuseable.

I remember a tip from a F/S thats not here. Keep Sabiki rigs from tangling by raping them around a wine cork so you can stick all 4 hooks in. Also an excuse to drink a bottle of wine.

A good fuel for fire starting is new skin liquid bandaid.Just a little bit will burn for about 30 seconds.Doesnt take up very much room in your backpack and can also seal a small wound to help fight infection.

F&S should put all these in a book. It could be the "F&S Reader Tips: 2009" and have one every year. These things are GOLD!

To keep your boat motor from having mud daubers infiltrating your motors water squirter, take a regular sized pipe cleaner and insert about half into squirter and bend the rest of the pipe cleaner for easy memoval from motor. Works wonderful! I've used the same pipe cleaner all summer....cheap and fast.

I picked up a $3.00 fiberglass fly rod at a garage sale, put a small spinning reel on the handle with electric tape. The long soft action lets me cast 1/32 oz. jigs or minnows 30 yaqrds or more. It also keeps crappie from tearing off. It mades a great pan fis rod!

Great CATFISH Bait.
Cut chicken breast into bait size pieces. Make real strong Cherry Cool Aid, and soak the chicken pieces in the cool aid. The longer it soaks the better it is. Keep in Frigidare.

When hunting out of tree stand get a 24"x24" piece of Camouflage velour Fabric. It will stick to the Tree without pins and it stops the sound your coat makes when rubbing a tree when you turn to look around. It takes up very little room in your pack and doesn't weigh but a couple of ounces.

I like to Rattle for Deer so I tied my Antlers 12" apart and put them on a 15' rope. When I am in my ladder stand I lower them to the ground and raddled them together in the leaves. This really sounds like 2 bucks fighting and moving around in the leaves. I always have success drawing in Bucks.

I noticed the torsion bar on my assisted opening pocket knife is strong for about 2 to 4 years. I have started storing my pocket knife open at night (In a safe place of coarse) relieving tension on the bar. Now I expect to get 6 to 8 strong years out of my bar.

When I go backpacking I try to carry as little weight as possible and I try to make each meal as simple as possible. I use (clean) medicine bottles with child proof caps to store my coffee, energy drink etc... I measure out exact amounts and write it on the outside of the bottle with tape and magic marker. This keeps my powders dry because the bottles are water resistant. This is a much less expensive way to go as it is much less expensive to buy in bulk than in the store bought bottles.

Additional Info

Some of the best hunting and fishing tips that appear in Field & Stream every month don't come from the editors or writers at the magazine. They come from you, the readers. We get so many good tip submissions, in fact, that it's sometimes tough to select the winners for our "Reader Tips" section. But there was never any doubt about the tips in this gallery. Here are the 34 best Reader Tips from the past two years.

If you have a good Reader Tip for the magazine, e-mail it to fsletters@bonniercorp.com, or post it on The Tip Board. If it appears in the magazine, we'll send you some great outdoor gear—free!
