While Donald M. Jones was photographing loons in Kilbrennan Lake in Montana last July, this cow moose waded into the water nearby. "I heard this splashing, turned, and there she was," says Jones. "She came in and fed on those grasses, diving down all the way under except for her hump, and going out deeper and deeper. She'd get so deep she couldn't touch the bottom anymore, lose her footing, and then start floating almost on her side."

This is very good photography. Great job Mr. Jones!

The cartoon Character of the Forest, always love watching a moose. They don't seem to ever have a care in the world, and just seem to do whatever their unpredictable brain decides. They are also the only wild animal in Idaho I have been chased by, and not just once, multiple times, they defenitly have attitude problems.
Nice photos. Back in the 80's I watched a large Alaskan bull do the same thing in a pond on Tanana flats near Fairbanks. I was riding an Army UH-1 helocopter putting up Impact Area posted signs. Didn't have a camera and he was a very big one in velvet.
wow nice pics. i gusse that you where in the right spot at the right time.
OK, I have to be brutally honest here. One or two of the pics would have been sufficient; there were not sufficient meaningful differences in the photos to warrant posting 16 of them.
Yeah, and it's because of people like you orion that nobody reads anymore. If you can't say it in five words or two pictures, your too busy to appreciate it. You got a board meeting today? Those pictures show a beautiful sequence of a wild animal. Each one is different. Sorry to be brutally honest
I love the moose's long eyelashes. Pic #12 is really funny.
I Have been around a lot of moose but I have never seen this before great pics
I she had charged him what was he going to do? Throw his Camera at her??? Never will I go into the Montains of Montana or any Rocky Mtn State without a firearm. Not necessary to kill the animal, but to protect myself if need be. I think my wife learned this lesson last fall in MT when a Cougar came within 20 yds of her, and I was about 50 yds away with the gun. Too late for me to get a shot when she got my attention. Never know what you gonna run into in the wilds.
That first picture is about what my Bull Moose looked like when I first spotted it. Just another cow until Bull Winkle rolled his head exposing one side. Talk about a cardiac arresting buck fever rush!!
these are some great, halarious, and demented pictures
Great pics! I always enjoy seeing animals carrying about with their daily lives.
Great pics! Nothing like the unexpected in the outdoors.
Nice pictures, i like 15 a lot
Must have been a pretty nice camera to catch pictures like that. Great pics!
wow great pics must have taken quite some time and pactience to get these.
Yeah, and a fast finger. Nice job. I too am a fan of #15.
Congratulations, Moose, on being the weirdest, most awkward, yet most awesome animal ever.
Wonderful pictures! Wild animals doing what they do in their world is the most entertaining thing I've ever experienced. I've spent hours before, quietly swatting blackflies, to watch moose slosh around in lillypad pools. I would caution this; a cow moose with her calf can be very protective!
Wonderful photos
All very good photos!!!!
I was trout fishing from a bellyboat near Libby Mont. and noticed large bull moose feeding toward me.Mr. moose ran me off His lake.I ended up running from lake, naked with gear over shoulder.
Outstanding pics of the Moose-great expressions - wish I had been there to see it but your shots told a great story!
OUTSTANDING. Makes me homesick for Montana.
With this being my first visit to fieldand stream.com, I am so delighted with your photos. I laughed, ah-h-h-ed, wanted to pet that velvet nose but it was #16 that won my heart. Who would have ever thought a moose could pose in a Monet!
Beautiful pictures.........I love to go sometime in the future!!!!!!!!
