It,s going to look very, very nice on his wall. Ohio has produced many huge whitetais over the years. Just go to Buckeyebigbucksclub.org and have a look at some truly enormous bucks. although Ohio is a relatively small state in actual land size and is high in population, it still manages to produce big deer. ON another recent blog, you talked about leases and I can tell you first hand that it is becoming more and more common. those so called HUNTING PRESERVES are springing up all over the state. The day is coming when free range hunting will come to an end. I just hope it is not in my lifetime

as long as we all stick together and quit all the in-fighting we will always have a place to hunt. But like in NC when the traditionalists start pissin and moaning about crossbows during archery and compound this and no dogs and expandable broadheads vs fixed blades......we all lose. WE NEED TO STICK TOGETHER NOW MORE THAN EVER, AND TAKE A KID FROM THE CITY HUNTING! does absolutely no good to take your friends kid who lives on a farm hunting with you if you don't also take his buddy from school who doesn't have a Dad, or a good one anyway.
Just my 2 cents, takes a hunter to make a hunter:)

To Deadeyedick:
Free range hunting died in Alabama with the free trade law. I miss the days of my youth when I could get off the school bus, whistle up my old dog, take off from the house (on foot) make a big loop on the two adjoining farms, find 6 coveys and be back home by dark. It is true that the game belongs to the state, but get caught hunting the 'states' game on land without permission, or a lease, and get ready to fork out considerable dough for court cost and fines. Life was much simpler then with no 'hunting preserves' and leases. Just sayin,,,,

To Res1956;I agree but those days are gone.I live in a state where land is posted from oct.1st to the middle of dec.The reasons are many, the postings range from hunt by permission only to no trespassing period!

Nice buck! It is getting harder and harder to manage property and find property to hunt on here in Wisconsin. There are people trespassing constantly and subdivisions being built in every corn field!

Here's to the best kept secret- Ohio is the best free ranging, no need for guide service deer hunting state in the USA. The ODNR really has there finger on this subject and catching persons who hunt illegally through poaching with stop lights and many horrible ways. But as far as big bucks are concerned it's been proven in the record books and the many photos taken over the years. Illinois and Iowa and Texas can keep all the tourists. When I'm at any particular spot hunting I enjoy the solitude from no one walking through my chosen hunting area that day. Only the crackle of leaves and twigs count as the many bucks and does that are coming my way.

Additional Info

Eventhough archery seasons opened just a month ago in most states, the biggest typical buck of the 2010-11 season may already have been taken by JT Kreager in Ohio on the second day of the state's bow season. Dave Hurteau tracked down the hunter and got the story of his collosal, near-perfect 10 with a green score of 188.
